GEELONG, Victoria’s largest regional city with a population of 270,000, is 75km southwest of Melbourne in Corio Bay. A large engineering and manufacturing support industry has developed around Geelong’s traditional automotive, petrochemical, aluminium, fertiliser and cement industries.
An impressive network of 46 engineering related companies, the Engineering Network Geelong (ENG), was formed in 2009, auspiced by the Geelong Manufacturing Council (GMC). “With Geelong’s traditional industry
base in transition, a key role of ENG is to provide linkages for Australian companies to utilise Geelong expertise, capacity and skill sets,” GMC executive officer David Peart said.
“Attracted by outstanding quality and service, companies Australia-wide are increasingly using ENG.”
With its own major port, airport and easy rail and highway access, Geelong’s transport and logistics infrastructure is unparalleled in Australia. Geelong is also supported by first-class engineering education, research and development facilities.
ENG members include Austeng, SAVA and Industrial Control Technology (ICT). Austeng was recently inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame. It is a family-based enterprise of 30 years, renowned for turnkey design-and-build projects. “Austeng is ideally setup to work with the resource sector, providing extensive expertise and innovative solutions,” Austeng managing director Ross George said.
“We manufacture in-house guaranteeing a complete package from concept, installation and commissioning.”
SAVA is a multi-skilled and versatile organisation, employing a variety of trade groups such as pipe welders, structural steel fabricators, pipe fitters, mechanical fitters, motor mechanics, machinists, riggers scaffolders, crane drivers, mechanical engineers, and estimators. SAVA’s work force is supported by project design and planning capabilities and has QA ISO9001:2008 and JAS-ANZ accreditations.
ICT is a specialist professional automation engineering company with more than 25 years of experience in creating world class solutions.
