FROM simple beginnings in containerised furniture removal in the 1990s, SCF Group has grown to become an Australian leader in industrial transport and containerised storage solutions.
SCF Group chief executive Richard Sykes said that although the business landscape was changing rapidly, the most important constants were still quality and service.
“Our products are containers – in fact we have 10,000 of them in operation across Australia – but we don’t sell steel boxes, we sell solutions,” he said.
“Our job is to offer the most innovative ways to use containers to improve our client’s business efficiency and that often means coming up with a customised solution that suits a specific need.”
SCF Group recently assisted a customer that had experienced failures in tanks brought in by an overseas supplier. In response, the group’s in-house engineers developed a stronger pneumatic tank, uniquely suited to Australian conditions.
The fully intermodal pneumatic tank complied with industry standards and was extensively field-tested to dramatically reduce long-term maintenance costs and risks associated with powdered goods transportation.
“It’s a smarter and safer solution for our clients in the cement, mining or infrastructure industries,” SCF Group tank containers divisional manager Jamie Driscoll said.
Mr Sykes said SCF’s ‘can do’ attitude had led to the development of specialised container solutions for the Australian mining, transport and logistics industries, where the company had been recognised for the durability, quality and flexibility of its container products.
“It’s not just the container that SCF specialises in – it’s also the way customers use them. Our preferred method of service is hiring rather than sales,” Mr Sykes said.
“It is all about responding to the changing market place and providing flexible solutions.
“Our hire model is welcomed by our customers who can see the benefits of limiting up-front capital expenditure and freeing up cash flow.”
With more than 60 employees, SCF Group manages a growing fleet of diverse products and delivers across Australia from its offices in Adelaide, Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, as well as its nation-wide depot network.
