A Perth-based company will distribute more than 1000 sets of Personal Protective Gear (PPE) throughout Bali and other developing countries in 2016 and 2017 as part of a goal to provide construction safety gear to every worker on the planet.

The project is spearheaded by the newly established Hard Hat Foundation, a social initiative of Training Course Experts (TCE) managing director Jonathon Huston. Mr Huston said that when visiting cities and places in less privileged corners of the planet he saw continuous examples of dangerous and unsafe building practices from poorly paid workers with little or no protection equipment.

In just three months since establishment the Hard Hat Foundation has sourced the PPE and begun distribution to Balinese builders and their workers. In early May Mr Huston visited Bali to meet with local builders and donate the first 50 helmets.

“The next step for us is to develop a working relationship with one or two major construction companies that have significant working populations in Bali or Cambodia,” Mr Huston said.

“At present this our greatest need.”

The long-term aim of the Hard Hat Foundation was to establish training development facilities in developing countries to augment the provision of the PPE. Mr Huston said that individuals and businesses could help the Foundation by connecting it with mining and construction companies, or by reporting unsafe sites where it can deploy the program.  Hard Hat also accepts donations via its Facebook page.

“In due course we hope to provide work boots, safety glasses and gloves – yet we need supply partners for these products.”

“We embrace the principles of Educate, Encourage and Enforce – remembering that work and site safety was inadequate in Western Countries – just a decade or so ago,” Mr Huston said.

A specialist training provider to the resources sector, TCE has ASQA  authority to singly conduct Working at Heights, Confined Space and Gas Testing on a half day or combined one-day format. Coupled with the ease of access in the CBD, this is an extremely attractive option in these cost conscious times. Furthermore, these two courses can be combined with Senior First Aid or EWP over a two day format.

The school is just a few minutes from Perth’s CBD with plenty of access to public transport via a short walk from both Perth and McIver train stations. The Training Course Experts team has more than 9 years’ experience, with all trainers and assessors boasting a wealth of experience in their area of expertise.

Courses can be booked online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Alternatively, interested parties can drop into the office during office hours, or call on 9225 5122 to make a booking or with any course-related questions.
