WA-based minerals explorer Venturex has achieved success in WA’s Pilbara region through its Sulphur Springs copper-zinc project and has announced results for recent drilling at its Whim Creek development.
The completion of a reverse circulation drilling program at Sulphur Springs, 160km southeast of Port Hedland and 50km west of Marble Bar, confirmed high-grade extensions to the Western Lens copper-zinc mineralisation.
The project’s indicated and inferred mineral resources have been upgraded to 12.83 million tonnes grading 1.5 per cent copper, 4.1 per cent zinc, 0.2 per cent lead and 17.6 grams per tonne of silver.
As a result, the total mineral resource for the Pilbara copper-zinc project rose to 26.37mt grading 1.2 per cent copper, 3.4 per cent zinc, 0.3 per cent lead and 18.9g/t of silver.
Venturex managing director Michael Mulroney said the company was pleased with the results.
“This increase in the Sulphur Springs mineral resource is an excellent result, with further upside possible,” he said. “We anticipate that this will provide a strong basis for a higher conversion resource to reserve rate for the Sulphur Springs deposit as part of the current feasibility study. This would be an excellent outcome, and would confirm the long-term potential and value of the Pilbara copper-zinc project.”
Furthermore, Venturex has announced the results from exploration at the Whim Creek development’s Salt Creek, East Balla and Dough Boy trends and the Liberty-Indee project.
The majority of results from new drilling at Salt Creek within the Whim Creek exploration project, 17km northwest of Whim Creek, were announced, displaying minor sulphide and copper-zinc mineralisation in drill hole SCR014.
The company stated that it “intersected a broad zone of footwall-style alteration (chlorite, silica, sericite and locally fuchsite) with local zones of disseminated and occasionally semi-massive, sulphide mineralisation” at the East Balla trend, while “no significant assays were recorded” at the Dough Boy trend.
Drilling at the Evelyn deposit at Liberty-Indee, 30km south of Whim Creek, found small 0.5m zones of sulphide mineralisation with minor copper and zinc sulphides.
Following further drilling, another geological survey will be conducted to determine and model the structure of the area.
Venturex also operates the Tarrawarra project in WA’s Carnarvon Basin in addition to a number of developments in Brazil.
