IN a boost to the territory’s economy and jobs, Nathan River Resources has been granted further approval to develop the next stage of its Nathan River Project in the Roper Gulf region. Nathan River Resources, owned by British Marine Group (Britmar), took over the former Western Desert Resources Roper Bar iron ore mine in 2017 after the previous owner went into liquidation. The mine, an established open-cut iron ore mine located 55km southeast of Ngukurr, had been in care and maintenance since April 2015. In February 2018, Nathan River Resources was approved to reopen the mine and ship existing stockpiled minerals and process low-grade ore at the site. Consultation opens for best-practice decommissioning The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is seeking feedback for the decommissioning of petroleum and geothermal energy property, equipment and infrastructure in WA onshore areas and State coastal waters. The draft policy and guideline were prepared following industry feedback received on the Draft Decommissioning Discussion Paper which was released for consultation in September 2022. The materials outline DMIRS’ expectation for decommissioning and provide clear guidance to registered holders on their decommissioning and rehabilitation obligations. Fenix Resources flying high after positive September quarter results Fenix Resources (ASX: FEX) has announced positive results for the September quarter at the recent International Mining and Resources Conference in Sydney. The Iron Ridge iron ore mine, located in WA’s Mid-West region, saw six shipments totalling 345,950wmt of iron ore products shipped. This pushed Fenix Resources past the milestone of 5mt shipped from Iron Ridge since first shipment began in February 2021. The case alleged that Mr Palmer appropriated more than $12 million CITIC deposited with Mineralogy – to cover costs of operating a port at Cape Preston, WA, related to the Sino Iron project – for his election campaign and other uses.
