Mining giant BHP (ASX:BHP) has released its sixth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and its second Elevate RAP. The RAP was developed in collaboration with various representatives from Traditional Owner groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, communities, organisation and peak bodies across the country. It was developed through an extensive consultation process which involved nine forums over eight months held in every region BHP operates in. Gold explorer Bulletin Resources has secured $600,000 from a strategic investor to fund exploration and resource expansion at its WA tenements. The money was received via a share placement of 10.9 million ordinary shares at $0.55 per share, which is a 22 per cent premium of the market price. The company would use the capital for drilling and expansion at the Lamboo and Golden Crown gold projects in the Kimberley. Anglo American has rejected BHP’s $59.57b (£31.1b) proposal as it “significantly undervalues Anglo American and its future prospects”. Additionally, Anglo American’s board believes the proposal contemplates a structure which is highly unattractive for the company’s shareholders, given the uncertainty and complexity in the proposal and significant execution risks. AFRICA’S emergence as a mining powerhouse would not be a threat to Australian investment, according to WA Premier Colin Barnett, who claimed it is in Australia’s best interest to help develop the nation’s resources industry. At the Africa Downunder conference, Mr Barnett outlined some of the achievements the WA Government had made before making a ‘genuine’ offer to assist the African mining industry by sending some of the state’s most experienced officials to share their knowledge. Mr Barnett said WA and Africa shared many common characteristics such as remoteness, long distance, travel costs and travel time, and indicated a large proportion of Australian companies involved in African mining were based in Perth.
