New PPE waste management initiative With the surge in use of personal protective equipment (PPE) since COVID-19, a recycling program has been launched by Australian PPE producer Industree Group and global recycling company TerraCycle to reduce PPE waste at worksites nation-wide. The Epicycle initiatve features recycling boxes that are custom-designed for collecting used safety glasses, safety gloves and disposable respirators before they reach landfill. Rio Tinto to acquire Chilean assets, commits $150m to Centre for Future Materials Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) is set to purchase PanAmerican Silver’s 57.74% stake in Agua de la Falda S.A., a company with exploration tenements in Chile’s Atacama region. The company has also entered a joint venture with Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco) to explore and potentially develop Agua de la Falda’s assets. Rio will acquire PanAmerican’s 57.74% stake in Agua for $45m and the grant of new smelter returns royalties. Rio Tinto to increase Gudai-Darri production capacity to 50mtpa Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) is aiming to increase production capacity at Gudai-Darri — its newest iron ore mine — to 50mtpa at a cost of $130m. Located in the Pilbara region in WA, the Gudai-Darri mine began production last year and reached its planned annual capacity of 43mt in less than 12 months from first ore.
