Often regarded as the staple tools of builders and carpenters, Makita is now making an aggressive push into mining, oil and gas, with its heavy-duty 40V Max XGT cordless platform.
Makita’s XGT range now encompasses morethan 350 products engineered to challenge traditional pneumatic and corded equipment.
For mining and heavy industrial applications,where high torque is essential, Makita’s 40VMax XGT 1-inch D-Handle Impact Wrenches (TW009G and TW010G) are essential additions to the maintenance toolkit. Designed to deliver substantial torque while providing greater control, the wrenches are built for the demanding fastening and removal tasks associated with heavy machinery.
The wider XGT range includes the High Output Angle Grinder (GA050Z), which delivers performance comparable to a 1400WAC grinder, while the Brushless 355MM Power Cut Saw (CE001GL) uses 80V Max technology, combining two 40V batteries to deliver the cutting capacity required for demanding industrial applications.
For technicians working across large sites,that means less equipment to move, fewer hoses to manage and greater freedom to take high-torque capability directly to the machine.
However, power is only part of the challenge. With large FIFO workforces and labour hire teams, maintaining control over high-value equipment can be difficult.
Makita’s XDefence system provides an additional layer of security by allowing batteries to be paired with specific tools. If a tool is removed from its authorised environment, it can effectively become unusable without its designated pairing. The system provides greater control over equipment while helping deter theft and unauthorised use.
The company’s industrial push is also underpinned by a product development philosophy focused on analysing real-world operating conditions and incorporating feedback from end users.
Putting tools to the test
Beyond the hardware, Makita is increasing its direct engagement with industry through a new demonstration request system. Makita’s specialists visit worksites to assess individual requirements and demonstrate tailored solutions, from grinders and impact wrenches to industrial cleaning equipment.
