A production lift at its flagship Cadia mine in NSW has enabled Newcrest Mining to meet production targets.

Australia’s largest listed gold miner said gold production for the three months to June 30 rose to 634,950oz from 551,815oz a year ago.

Cadia East produced 38.1mtpa and throughput of 34.3mtpa in the June quarter, contributing to 764,895oz of gold produced at the site in the financial year:  above Newcrest’s guidance range of 680,000-760,000oz for Cadia.

Total gold production in the June quarter was 6% higher than the previous period partially due to Cadia’s performance.

The miner had trimmed its annual output guidance earlier this year after production at Cadia was affected by damage to a tailings wall.

Company managing director Sandeep Biswas said the prohibition notice from the seismic event had been lifted and the affected area was currently being rehabilitated.
