Bravus Mining and Resources and major contracting partner DRA Global are seeking to add skilled operators, technical trades and maintenance crew to the team that keeps the Carmichael mine’s Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) running smoothly.

DRA Global senior vice president – APAC East Michael Carretta says the business was recruiting about 20 new site-based roles to support the operation and maintenance of the multi-million-dollar facility that processes the raw coal, sort it into grades and stockpile it for loading onto trains.

“At DRA, we’re proud of our contribution to the Carmichael mine, which began over five years ago with design, construction and commissioning of the CHPP and Train Load Out. Today, our team provides high-value operations and maintenance services,” he said.

“Each shift offers variety and the opportunity to embrace innovative ideas and solutions. Every day, we work with cutting-edge technology that enhances efficiency, reduces operational costs and supports environmental sustainability. It’s a rewarding environment for those wanting to advance their careers.

“We’re looking for locals who want to make an impact. At Carmichael, the majority of our team members are from regional Queensland and we’re eager to grow this number as we continue our recruitment efforts.”

Bravus Mining and Resources chief operating officer Mick Crowe said the new DRA recruits would join a Carmichael community working together to safely, responsibly and efficiently mine high-quality thermal coal for export to nations overseas.

“Our Carmichael mine in central Queensland produces about 10mt of thermal coal each year which is used by nations in the Asia Pacific region alongside renewables to provide reliable and affordable energy that helps reduce poverty and power growth,” he said.

“Global demand for our coal is growing and we have the reserves and the environmental approvals in place to operate for decades to come, so we’re determined to keep giving back our regional communities through jobs, contracts and other economic investment.

“These new DRA roles are another great example highlighting that if you live in regional Queensland, Carmichael is the opportunity of a secure job for you, your kids and maybe even a grandkid or two.

“We have more 1200 people that call Carmichael their home away from home, and we all work hard to create a happy, physically and mentally healthy and socially connected environment.

“We also appreciate that as much as people value their workmates, there’s nothing like being at home. That’s why we provide direct flights to and from site and Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns and Mackay for those workers who don’t live in the Isaac Region.

“That means less of their R&R is lost to work-related travel, giving them more time to spend with friends and family while enjoying the perks of living and working in central and North Queensland.”
