Roc-drill sets the benchmark
Mining, civil excavation, and exploration projects are complex, heavily regulated, and require experienced operators with steady heads and hands. When you’re drilling and blasting, hitting drill targets and managing blasts safely and efficiently means there’s no room for error.
For Queensland-based Roc-Drill, part of the Norcliffe Group, drilling and blasting is in its DNA, from top to bottom. The company is a market-proven drill and blast contractor delivering results for diverse clients throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific, including Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
“We’ve set the benchmark as a drilling and blasting contractor for over a decade, and the quality of our systems, people and machinery are the bedrock of our business,” said Roc-Drill Chief Operating Officer, Eric Gobbert.
“Our business is renowned for its flexibility thanks to a team of over 350 personnel that’s supported by one of the nation’s largest, technically diverse drilling fleets.”
From refined 89mm top hammer drills and large down-the-hole hammer machines to massive 311mm rotary drills, Roc-Drill can deliver blast holes across the entire spectrum of modern mining drill and blast requirements.
Although the company’s core competencies are standardised, its practical and flexible approach to every project is tailored to customers’ specific needs.
“We offer drill and blast services across a range of mining commodities,” said Gobbert.
“Our team are professionals in maintaining measured project progress. We specialise in steadily achieving metres and hitting project milestones, while simultaneously accommodating commercial considerations.”
Roc-Drill’s safety, quality, environmental and compliance systems are all ISO certified, which makes them a preferred contractor for complex projects that demand an extra degree of assurance.
One project in particular is New Hope Group’s New Acland Mine. Following a long-standing relationship with the mine and the completion of previous contracts, Roc-Drill were contracted in 2021 to carry out production drilling.
The scope of work involved drilling 15,000 to 20,000 meters per month during Queensland’s wet season with a heavy reliance of a single drill. Four drillers were used, plus on-site maintenance and off-site support from the company’s workshop in Wacol.
Roc-Drill proudly engages local suppliers and relies on local contractors to support the operation.
