Metso bring mega mill liners to WA

Metso is installing a mega-class press at its Canning Vale production facility, expanding it rubber and Poly-Met wear parts production capability in Australia.
The press is specifically designed to produce large Megaliner mill liners, anticipated to be operational in Q4 this year, and will position Metso as the only mill liner manufacturer in the country.
The installation of the mega-class press will significantly enhance the company’s manufacturing flexibility with the ability to produce very large liners — up to 4.5m by 3.2m coverage — with weight limits defined solely by the customer’s installation capacity.
The capacity to produce larger and heavier parts will enable faster and safer mill relines, delivering improved mill availability and in turn increased production for customers.
The added flexibility of the simultaneous production of multiple liners will also lead to greater manufacturing efficiency, reduced costs and shorter lead times.
Metso Asia Pacific president Stuart Sneyd says customers have already responded very positively to the advantages of local support with our Karratha service centre opened in 2024.
“This expanded mill liner production capability will enhance our customer service by reducing lead times, enabling quicker deliveries and improving support for customers’ rubber wear parts,” he said.
“Additionally, this initiative contributes to lower carbon dioxide emissions in logistics, supporting Metso’s sustainability targets.”
Metso mill lining senior vice president Martin Karlsson says the installation reinforces the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable wear solutions to customers.
“This investment strengthens our global footprint and ensures we continue to lead the way in mill lining technology, while developing our manufacturing footprint from a regionalization perspective,” he said.
This capability improvement in WA complements Metso’s regional rubber and Poly-Met production network, including factories in Chile, Peru, Mexico, Brazil, India and Lithuania.
