BHP supports Traditional Owner governance

BHP (ASX: BHP) is partnering with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) to support the development of a First Nations director pipeline with a schoplarship program.
The scholarship program will provide in-classroom board governance education to 250 First Nations executives and aspiring board directors from Traditional Owner groups and Indigenous community organisations in regional locations in South Australia and WA.
The program is designed to engage leaders and support them through education to improve governance and increase their operational capacity to deliver long-term sustainable outcomes for the communities in which they operate.
The AICD led program is designed to strengthen governance in community-led organisations by maintaining currency of knowledge in areas such as director duties, financial literacy, risk management, compliance, organisational performance and leadership skills by facilitating two-way learning between First Nations leaders and organisations.
Consisting of two parts, the program will cover foundational governance training as well as an additional leadership training component to support the in-classroom learning.
Participants will have continued access to learning through a leadership workshop and virtual coaching sessions to support boards and their governance journey.
