Queensland research maps movements and behaviours of black-throated finch

Queensland researchers have mapped the habitat and movements of the black-throated finch in a never-before-seen level of detail, as part of Bravus Mining and Resources commitment to managing the environment. The findings are the latest from a five-year joint research program between Bravus Mining and Resources and researchers from ecology consultancy E2M and have been published in the peer-reviewed and highly respected international scientific journal PLOS One. Design features at the North Queensland Export Terminal north of Bowen are ensuring turtle hatchlings see the light as nature intended. Abbot Point Operations manages the operations and maintenance of the multi-billion-dollar facility and has incorporated “turtle-friendly” amber lighting on terminal infrastructure visible from the ocean, to allow hatchlings a smoother path to the sea. PRIME Minister Scott Morrison has announced plans to examine red tape in mining and other key industries as part of a push to ramp up Australia’s economy. In a speech to business leaders in Perth last week, Mr Morrison said he had charged his assistant minister Ben Morton with investigating the levels of existing bureaucratic hurdles, with the government’s previous red tape-cutting initiatives already creating savings of $5.8 billion. ASX-listed explorer Crusader Resources has progressed towards full production rights at its newest mining venture, the Posse Iron Ore project, after receiving a full environmental licence for the Brazil-based project. Lying 30km from Belo Horizonte in the country’s east, Posse Iron Ore has operated under a trial mining licence since opening in March which restricted throughput at the mine to 300,000 tonnes of ore per annum. However, six weeks after the mine’s first production, Crusader was granted a combined preliminary and installation licence for environmental approval of its 100 per cent owned iron ore project by Brazil’s Minas Gerais State Environmental Council, COPAM, enabling it to apply for complete mining rights and ramp-up production to full capacity.
