25 years of engineering more than infrastructure

For 25 years, Inline Engineering Services has been more than just a services provider. The business has been built with people, relationships and integrity at its core, held together by a belief that success carries a responsibility to give back.
Since its founding in 2001, the company has evolved from a small startup into a respected industry leader, delivering engineering, fabrication and maintenance solutions across some of Western Australia’s most demanding industrial environments.
Building on this legacy, Inline Engineering Services is continuing to expand its end-to-end capabilities, now offering polyurethane products and services throughout the Pilbara. Backed by local expertise in the region, the expanded service offering enables the company to provide even greater value and support to clients across every stage of their operations.
While the business’s journey has been a roller coaster ride, from navigating mining booms, the global financial crisis and various market downturns, it has never wavered from its values.
“Business success and community impact go hand in hand,” Inline Engineering Services founder James Taylor says.
The true legacy of Inline Engineering Services extends well beyond the projects it delivers.
It is clear that James Taylor sets the tone for the entire organisation with his sunny disposition. His leadership style is deeply rooted in humility and respect, maintaining that no one is too big for any job.
Taking a top-down leadership approach, James believes that leadership managing pressures at the top enables the team to focus on what truly matters.
“The stress that comes with time pressures and operational constraints doesn’t belong to the people doing the job. They need to worry about the quality of their work, safety and looking after each other.”
Investing in people
From its earliest days, Inline Engineering Services recognised that a strong industry depends on developing skilled and passionate people. Over the years, the company has provided training, mentoring and employment opportunities for apprentices, helping shape the next generation of tradespeople and industry leaders.
These opportunities have not only built careers but have also supported families, created financial security and strengthened local communities. Many who began their journey as apprentices have gone on to establish successful careers, carrying forward the values of hard work, professionalism and excellence that Inline Engineering Services embodies.
The company has also partnered with the Intern Gateway program, welcoming interns into the business and providing valuable real-world workplace experience. By investing in emerging talent, Inline Engineering Services is helping prepare future generations for success while ensuring the engineering industry continues to thrive.
There is perhaps no better example of Inline Engineering Services’ commitment to mentorship than the company’s State Operations Manager, Adam Morgan. Having been with the company for more than 14 years, Adam worked his way up from trade assistant, to apprentice, to supervisor and now serves in one of the company’s most critical leadership roles.
“We want to help everyone who comes through our doors be the best they can be by giving them the best opportunities we can,” James said.
This people-first philosophy extends far beyond workforce development. Inline Engineering Services believes better businesses are built when people feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed. The result is a culture that drives loyalty, accountability and pride in workmanship, creating stronger outcomes for clients, safer workplaces and long-term partnerships built on trust. For Inline Engineering Services, investing in people is not separate from business performance; it is the foundation of it.
“We know people won’t always be with us forever, but we want them to leave a better person than when they came.”
Making a difference close to home
That commitment to community is reflected in the many local initiatives, sponsorships and partnerships Inline Engineering Services has supported throughout its 25-year journey. From funding a music scholarship at Hedland Senior High School and supporting literacy programs at South Hedland Primary School, to helping local sporting organisations such as the Swans Baseball Club, Hedland Teeball Association and Hedland Softball Association, the company has consistently invested in opportunities that help young people thrive. Inline has also contributed to projects that strengthen community connection.
Developing local talent has been another cornerstone of Inline Engineering Services’ contribution to the Pilbara. Through apprenticeship training programs delivered in partnership with major mining operators, the company has helped create pathways for tradespeople to build rewarding, long-term careers in the resources sector. This commitment to developing people has been recognised through multiple Apprentice of the Year awards, a WorldSkills National Finalist achievement, coaching and mentorship awards, and industry recognition through Business Leader of the Year nominations and multiple Business of the Year accolades. These achievements reflect a culture that values growth, leadership and excellence, ensuring that the benefits of industry success are shared across the wider community.
The company’s identity is inextricably linked to Port Hedland, where local businesses are the lifeblood of the community. Inline Engineering Services advocates for a model of community and contribution over competition.
“The measure of a business isn’t what it takes from a community, it’s what it leaves behind. If we disappeared tomorrow, we’d want people to remember the opportunities we created, the people we supported and the difference we made,” James said.
“At the end of the day, we want our community to miss us if we’re not there.”
One cause particularly close to the hearts of the team is the fight against Type 1 diabetes through their long-standing support of the Type 1 Diabetes Breakthrough Research Foundation WA.
Since 2015, Inline Engineering Services has contributed an extraordinary $179,070 to support life-changing research and advocacy. These contributions have helped fund world-leading research efforts aimed at improving outcomes for people living with Type 1 diabetes and ultimately finding a cure. Supporters such as Inline Engineering Services have helped make milestones like this possible.
For the thousands of families affected by Type 1 diabetes, Inline Engineering Services’ support represents more than funding. It represents hope for a better future.
Global citizenship
While Inline Engineering Services’ impact is strongly felt within Australia, its reach extends far beyond our shores.
Since 2019, through their partnership with the Mission Abundance Foundation (MAF), Siobhan Whalley and James Taylor have helped transform the lives of vulnerable children, families and communities in Uganda.
Inline Engineering Services has contributed more than $170,000 towards child sponsorship programs, community projects and the ongoing support of local ministry teams. Beyond financial support, Siobhan and James have personally travelled to Uganda on three humanitarian missions, working alongside local leaders to witness the difference these programs make. These experiences have only reinforced their belief that meaningful change happens when leaders are willing to show up, get involved and invest in others.
Across the Kyampisi and Nateete communities, the partnership has helped deliver projects with life-changing outcomes. From a community water bore providing clean water to approximately 4,000 people, medical camps delivering healthcare, education and sponsorship programs helping children break the cycle of poverty, and community development initiatives creating long-term opportunities and resilience, the impact is undeniable.
A legacy of service
As Inline Engineering Services celebrates 25 years of business, its achievements can be measured in many ways: successful projects completed, apprentices trained, jobs created, families supported and a reputation built on trust and quality.
Yet perhaps the company’s greatest achievement is the positive impact it has had on people and communities.
Whether mentoring future tradespeople, supporting groundbreaking medical research, creating opportunities for vulnerable children in Uganda, or helping young professionals enter the workforce, Inline Engineering Services has consistently demonstrated that business success and community impact go hand in hand.
The journey from a three-person team in 2001 to an industry pillar has ebbed and flowed, but the destination has always remained the same.
Twenty-five years on, Inline Engineering Services’ legacy is not only what it has built, but the lives it has helped build along the way. And that impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.
As the team looks towards the future, Inline Engineering Services remains committed to a simple truth: the strongest foundations are not built from steel and concrete alone, but from integrity, partnership and people. After 25 years, that belief continues to guide every project, every relationship and every opportunity to make a lasting difference.
