In harsh and remote conditions, reliable power generation is vital.

Mining operations throughout the country rely heavily on readily available and consistent power supply – which doesn’t skip a beat, even in the most unforeseen circumstances.

Mine operators are looking for gear that is readily available, easy to install and is tough and reliable to withstand even the harshest mine site or exposed terrain conditions.

The Australian Mining Review spoke to PowerLink Australia’s Marketing Manager, Bianca Dantl, to explore how PowerLink has grown to be one of the leading manufacturers of diesel and gas generators, lighting towers and air compressors in Australia.

Who is the PowerLink Group?

Founded in 2001, the PowerLink Group is recognised as a rapidly growing and innovative manufacturer and supplier of reliable and high-performing power equipment.

With its operation, manufacturing facilities and branches located across the world, PowerLink has successfully supplied over 120,000 units to 98 countries worldwide.

Working with a world-class R&D centre and three international manufacturing plants, PowerLink is committed to designing and producing top quality power equipment.

Partnering with reputable engine brands such as MAN, MWM, Kubota, Cummins and Perkins, John Deere, Volvo, ensures that they on their commitment to provide reliable, power equipment to places across the world.

PowerLink began supplying the Oceania region, including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands, in 2006. As the popularity of PowerLink’s products increased, PowerLink Australia was established in 2010 to better serve the region.

R&D and Reliable Supply Chain

Consistent product quality and reliability has been crucial to building PowerLink’s reputation as a top manufacturer over the past 20 years.

“PowerLink is more than just a manufacturer. We value our clients, their experiences and their needs from our products,” Bianca said.

“Our product development cycle is continuous with quality assurance incorporated across every step, ensuring our clients receive the highest quality and reliability from our products.”

“We like to hear from our customers about their experiences. Each PowerLink product begins its journey being designed by our in-house R&D department with the vision to improve our customer experience or solving customer problems.

“Any feedback received from customers is evaluated and incorporated into our product design. Our cycle of continuous improvement ensures that PowerLink stays in a leading position.

“At PowerLink, we are proud of our supply chain and value the long term strategic relationships with our suppliers.

“Our supply chain is one of the major assets of the company. We look after our supply chain very carefully by only using the qualified/proven suppliers and we continuously review the quality and performance of all our suppliers to ensure our customers are receiving the highest quality possible.”

Diesel Generators for Every Application

Diesel generators are the backbone of PowerLink’s product range and they have a generator suitable for every application.

“Our diesel generators range from 6kVA to 3,250kVA which means we have a genset that can handle any possible application,” Bianca said.

“Whether it’s a genset needed as a backup for a shopping centre or commercial building or multiple gensets required for a power station to power a large mine site, a PowerLink genset will be up for the job.

“Reliability is key and a generator that will never skip a beat is critical on any job site, especially a mine site. All PowerLink gensets are powered by world-renowned diesel engines and alternators to ensure they continuously perform at their best.”

Depending on the size, PowerLink generators are available with soundproof, weatherproof canopies or self-sufficient containerised units.

They are supplied complete features suitable for daily heavy-duty needs such as a long range fuel tank, skid base, anti-corrosion treatment surface etc.

New trend: Natural Gas Generators

Natural gas as a power source is becoming more popular across Australia as the cost of gas is significantly cheaper than diesel and is more environmentally friendly.

PowerLink recognised the potential of natural gas and has been at the forefront by developing technology to transform gas into power. This led to the development of PowerLink’s range of natural gas generators as well as natural gas and bigas cogeneration units.

“Using natural gas to generate power is a trend that has been popular across Europe but it is only starting to gain traction here. Gas generators are cost effective, efficient to run, and release less emissions making them environmentally friendly,” Bianca said.

“PowerLink gas generators range from 10KW to 2000kW and are built with PowerLink, MAN, or MWM engines. Our natural gas gensets are the result of integrated design and manufacturing intended to meet your requirements for reliability, power quality, rated performance, and efficient operation”.

Lighting Towers

Mobile lighting is necessary across many mine sites as they work through all hours. With fuel efficiency and reliability critical factors when considering lighting options on site, PowerLink’s lighting towers are an excellent option for mine operators looking for additional lighting that’s built to withstand Australia’s harsh conditions.

PowerLink’s best lighting tower for Australian mine sites is the ALT2000. Built to MDG15/41 specifications for Australian mines, the ALT2000 is suitable for open-cut mining.

Weighing in at 2t, it features high output LED light fixtures at 500W per unit and a reliable two-cylinder Kubota engine. With an LCD panel built into its powder-coated canopy, this lighting tower allows for precise electronic control of light output, height and tilting through its inbuilt control system.

Diesel Driven Air Compressors

PowerLink has incorporated its knowledge and expertise with diesel engines to develop a range of heavy-duty, diesel driven air compressors that can be used across multiple industrial applications.

Each of the air compressor complies with the local safety standards.

PowerLink’s air compressors range from 50cfm to 1400cfm and are available with a trailer or skid mounted.

Nationwide Distribution and Service Network

Customer service and support is at the heart of PowerLink’s commitment to their customers.

With a national distribution network, consisting of 15 key distributors, and a nationwide service network, PowerLink is well positioned to support their customers across the country.

“We work with our distributors and service agents to provide our customers with the best after sales support and service possible,” Bianca said.

“Things can go wrong at any time and we provide PowerLink customers with peace of mind that they have back up when they need it most.”
