Preparing your advert artwork

Make sure you follow the below procedures to ensure your advert prints correctly.

Download the colour profile

To ensure that your advert prints as expected, please download the ICC profile used by our printer and create your advert using the assigned profile.

Install a color profile

Color profiles are often installed when a device is added to your system. The accuracy of these profiles (often called generic profiles or canned profiles) varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. You can also obtain device profiles from your service provider, download profiles from the web, or create custom profiles using professional profiling equipment.

  • In Windows, right-click a profile and select Install Profile. Alternatively, copy the profiles into the WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color folder.
  • In Mac OS, copy profiles into the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder or the /Users/[username]/Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder.

After installing color profiles, be sure to restart Adobe applications.

Assigning the profile in Illustrator

  • Create a new document with your advert's dimensions
  • Make sure the bleed is set to 0mm
  • Set the colour mode to CMYK
  • Set raster effects to 300ppi
  • Hit OK
  • Go to Edit > Assign Profile...
  • Set it to Profile and select FairfaxMedia_Newspaper_V1
  • Hit OK

You can commence creating your advert.

Assigning the profile in Photoshop

  • Create a new document with your advert's dimensions
  • Make sure the resolution is set to 300ppi
  • Set the colour mode to CMYK
  • Set raster effects to 300ppi
  • Open the Advanced options panel
  • Set Colour Profile to Working CMYK: FairfaxMedia_Newspaper_V1
  • Hit OK

You can commence creating your advert.

Outputting your PDF

  • Go to File > Save As...
  • Set the format to PDF and make sure Embed Color Profile: FairfaxMedia_Newspaper_V1 is checked
  • Hit Save to go to the PDF output settings
  • Set the preset to Press Quality
  • Go to Marks and Bleeds (Illustrator only) and make sure all the marks and bleeds are unchecked
  • Go to Output and set Color Conversion to Convert to Destination
  • Set Destination to Working CMYK - FairfaxMedia_Newspaper_V1
  • Set the Profile Inclusion Policy to Include Destination Profile
  • Save PDF
