Fortescue Metals Group’s diesel usage would exceed one billion litres annually in just a few years if it did not pursue greener energy sources. The staggering figure was highlighted by the company’s Director of Sustainability Alison Terry at WA Mining Club’s May luncheon. NRW awarded $360m mining services contract at Mungari

NRW Holdings (ASX: NWH) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Evolution Mining (Mungari), a wholly owned subsidiary of Evolution Mining (ASX: EVN), for surface mining at Castle Hill in WA. The project is in the heart of the Goldfields, 50km northwest of Kalgoorlie and 40km north of Coolgardie, ideally situated to allow NRW to engage with local businesses and further develop the local community partnerships established by the Mungari operations. Platina acquires Mt McKenna gold project

Platina Resources (ASX: PGM) is acquiring all the shares in Jasper Exploration, which owns a 100% interest in the Mt McKenna gold project in WA. The project is located 13km east of Laverton in close proximity to Genesis Minerals (ASX: GEN) Laverton project and 20km northeast of the Granny Smith mine. Platina is acquiring the project for $320,000 cash, the issue of 20 million ordinary shares in Platina and a 1.5% net smelter royalty for which Platina can buy-back 50% of the royalty at market value. PAPUA NEW GUINEA — As a member of the Panguna Mine Legacy Impact Assessment (PMLIA) Oversight Committee, Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) welcomed the release of the PMLIA report as a critical step forward in building understanding of the long-term legacy impacts of the former mine in Bougainville. MACA Interquip Mintrex (MIQM) who are part of the Theiss Group have been appointed study manager for Larvotto Resources’ (ASX: LRV) NSW Hillgrove gold and antimony project’s definitive feasibility study (DFS). MIQM will assume overall supervision of the ongoing metallurgical test work program currently underway at Independent Metallurgical Operations (IMO) and design modifications and detailed costings required to ensure optimal performance and production from the 500,000tpa Hillgrove processing plant.
