A new report has highlighted the multi-billion-dollar contribution the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) north of Bowen in North Queensland makes to local, state and national economies. North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) commissioned the study to examine the economic and social impact of three Queensland east coast ports it is port authority for — Hay Point, Mackay and Abbot Point. The North Queensland Export Terminal is located within the Port of Abbot Point. The study found activity at the Port of Abbot Point contributed almost $10b to the Queensland economy each year and supported more than 8000 jobs across the mining, construction, transport and wholesale trade industries. Design features at the North Queensland Export Terminal north of Bowen are ensuring turtle hatchlings see the light as nature intended. Abbot Point Operations manages the operations and maintenance of the multi-billion-dollar facility and has incorporated “turtle-friendly” amber lighting on terminal infrastructure visible from the ocean, to allow hatchlings a smoother path to the sea. There were plenty of thrills and a couple of spills as Bowen Rail Company and Collinsville residents celebrated the official opening of the Queensland town’s eagerly anticipated $300,000 ‘pump’ bike track. Located in Darcy Munro Park, the Collinsville pump track is designed for skateboarders, bike and scooter riders to make their way over a series of rollers, jumps and berms by generating momentum through up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. Bowen Rail Company fully-funded the $300,000 cost for the first stage of the circuit as part of a 2019 Infrastructure Access Agreement signed with Whitsunday Regional Council for the construction of the Carmichael Rail Network. Wyloo Metals (ASX:WYL) has extended its takeover offer for Australian nickel explorer Mincor Resources (ASX: MCR) until May 22, according to an announcement made on May 3, 2023. The privately-held Wyloo offered $1.40 per share of Mincor, a 35% premium on the closing price before the offer, which values the company at $760m ($510m) on a fully diluted basis. Before the takeover bid, Wyloo owned a nearly 20% stake in Mincor. Since then, Wyloo has tightened its grip on the target, reaching a 61.64% ownership as of May 2, 2023. ASX-listed Mincor has boosted nickel production and its operating surplus while driving down cash costs for the March 2012 quarter. Compared to the December 2011 quarter, nickel production was up 30 per cent to 87,696t grading 3.06 per cent nickel for 2683.4t of nickel in ore. Cash costs dropped from $7 per pound of nickel in the December period to $4.96/lb for the three months ending March. Despite lower nickel prices, Mincor’s operating surplus leapt 108 per cent to $14.58 million from $7 million in the December 2011 quarter. JTMEC, based in Perth, Australia, is an electrification infrastructure solutions provider for both underground and surface mines. The company’s offerings include high voltage installation and maintenance work, transformer servicing and testing, engineering design, feasibility studies, and training. It also manufactures electrical products including substations and mine chargers.
