Weir awarded $102m (£53m) redefined flowsheet contract for Reko Diq greenfield copper-gold project in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province

The first call-off order of $50m (£26m), which includes both ENDURON® large format High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) and wet screens, will be recognised in Q3 with the remaining orders booked later in 2024 and early 2025. Weir Group (Weir), a global mining technology leader, has been awarded the contract to provide industry-leading energy efficient, sustainable solutions to the Reko Diq copper-gold project, a 50% owned greenfield development by Barrick Gold Corporation (Barrick). The tier one copper project is located in the Chagai district of Balochistan and is targeting first production in 2028 with an estimated mine life of more than 40 years. Weir secures $48m contract for new phase of greenfield phosphate projects

The Weir Group has been awarded a $48m (£25m) contract for separation solutions at the OCP Group’s Benguerir and Louta greenfield phosphate projects in Morocco. The full order, which includes a range of both WARMAN slurry pumps and CAVEX hydrocyclones, will be recognised in Q3 of 2024. This will support the continued construction of the Louta project and the tripling of production from the Benguerir project, where Weir has previously provided similar separation and desliming solutions based on its energy efficient technology. The Rockhampton and Townsville-based operator of the Carmichael coal mine, near Clermont in central Queensland, was a major sponsor of the event, hosted each year by Darumbal Community Youth Service. GLOBAL copper demand is forecast to drop to 22.625mt this year, but bounce back 4.4pc to 23.625mt in 2021. According to the International Wrought Copper Council, the supply side also shows a 2020 drop followed by a strong rebound in 2021. “Using publicly available information and input from the International Copper Study Group (ICSG), the supply side data shows that in 2019 copper mine production was 20.46mt,” the Council said. “In 2020, mine output is expected to decrease by 4pc to 19.65mt. “For 2021, an increase in copper mine production of 6.7pc is forecast. A study co-authored by University of Exeter geologist Dr Ben Williamson detailed a new chemical exploration tool that could be used to find porphyry-type copper deposits. These low quality but high quantity deposits are the most common copper deposits in the world, delivering about three quarters of global copper. FOLLOWING months of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Bronzewing gold project, Metaliko Resources has entered an agreement to acquire the project from the administrator of Navigator Resources. Metaliko entered a $4.82 million deal to purchase all of the shares in Navigator Bronzewing – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navigator Resources – resulting in 100 per cent ownership of the Bronzewing project in the south Yandal gold belt of WA. Navigator produced gold from the project until May 2013, when the operations were put under care and maintenance. Navigator began reporting financial troubles early in 2013, with ongoing high project costs said to be plaguing the project.
