Bowen High students unlock ‘export level’ at Abbot Point

Abbot Point Operations (APO) has taken a group of Bowen State High School students on a deep dive into the operations of Australia’s most northern deepwater export port. The year seven students participated in a two-day learning experience at Bowen’s North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) gaining a fascinating insight into the stages of resources production and learning how the terminal plays a vital part in the pit-to-port process. The learnings from the site tour were then applied at a school ‘Pit to Port’ workshop delivered by the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA), the education arm of the Queensland Resources Council. There were plenty of thrills and a couple of spills as Bowen Rail Company and Collinsville residents celebrated the official opening of the Queensland town’s eagerly anticipated $300,000 ‘pump’ bike track. Located in Darcy Munro Park, the Collinsville pump track is designed for skateboarders, bike and scooter riders to make their way over a series of rollers, jumps and berms by generating momentum through up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. Bowen Rail Company fully-funded the $300,000 cost for the first stage of the circuit as part of a 2019 Infrastructure Access Agreement signed with Whitsunday Regional Council for the construction of the Carmichael Rail Network. Bravus Mining and Resources has unveiled the newest and biggest Peer Supporters for the industry-leading mental health program run at its Carmichael mine near Clermont in central Queensland. Bowen’s Cyclones netballers have swapped their bibs for aprons thanks to a Bowen Rail Company (BRC) community grant to refurbish their canteen kitchen and keep their club on track. Bowen Netball Association was one of four grant recipients in the latest round of Bowen Rail Company’s Community Partnership Program, which supports local not-for-profit organisations and community groups with the purchase of small assets that can make a big difference. Phase two drilling program begins at Alpha

Greenvale Energy (ASX:GRV) has begun the second phase of drilling at its Alpha Torbanite Project in Queensland. All up, 25 HQ core holes and 15 open holes will be drilled. The core hole will aim to increase the size and confidence levels in the 18.6Mt Alpha mineral resource, while the open holes are designed to test the continuity of the upper and lower seams to the south and north of the deposit within EPM 27718. The drilling program will also accelerate updated structural and geological modelling as well as provide key geotechnical date for mine planning and design work. Sheffield Resources (ASX: SFX) has ramped up production and shipments from the Thunderbird mineral sands mine in WA. Production has increased month on month with around 825kt of ore mined in June 2024. For the June 2024 quarter, total ore mined is expected to be 2.2mt, around 20% higher than the operating rate assumed within in the 2022 bankable feasibility study (BFS). The increase production resulted in 55kt of ilmenite concentrate produced in June and 120kt for the quarter, while zircon concentrate was 13kt for June and 33kt for the quarter.
