JOINT venture partners Continental Nickel (75 per cent) and IMX Resources (25 per cent) have announced the discovery of new nickel sulfide intersections at the promising Ntaka Hill project, which forms part of the larger Nachingwea nickel-copper JV in southern Tanzania. The initial round of drilling assays received from the Sleeping Giant Zone at Ntaka Hill returned 32.65m grading 1.04 per cent nickel and 0.22 per cent copper and 14m grading 1.45 per cent nickel and 0.25 per cent copper. Multiple zones of scattered nickel sulfide mineralisation assaying more than 0.5 per cent nickel were also intersected in the hanging wall to the Sleeping Giant Zone. Critical minerals company Tivan (ASX: TVN) has announced it will progress with plans to develop a fluorite mine in WA’s Kimberley region. Fluorite is used to produce fluorine, which the Federal Government added to Australia’s critical minerals list in December 2023. Tivan stated the Federal Government added fluorine to Australia’s critical minerals list in recognition of its role in the energy transition and lack of production in Australia. The company, which plans to mine fluorite in the Speewah region of the Kimberley, says fluorine can be utilised for chemical manufacturing and emerging sectors including next-generation lithium-ion batteries, solar cells and semi-conductor manufacturing. IN 2011, building contractor Abigroup approached SEE Civil to create a large capacity, mobile mineral separation plant. The plant was required to receive dump trucks with loads of up to 100t; produce at least 1200t per hour of process material; and output 3.8 million tonnes in total material within a eight month timeframe. SEE Civil owner and director Brian Turner responded by creating one of the world’s largest mobile trommels. “It was designed to process 1200t per hour, but we have achieved output of up to 2000t an hour, which is remarkable,” Mr Turner said.
