Years of scientific work to better understand ancient springs in outback Queensland has paid off for local researchers who will take their findings to the world stage at a prestigious conference in Davos, Switzerland. Dr Richard Cresswell and Anne Gibson from Eco Logical Australia will present at the upcoming International Association of Hydrogeologists World Groundwater Congress in September. Newmont receives clearance in Australia and Japan for Newcrest acquisition

Newmont has received further clearance for its acquisition of Newcrest Minerals (ASX:NCM). Following a review by Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB), the Treasurer has cleared Newmont to proceed with the acquisition, issuing a No Objection Notification (NON). The NON is conditional upon compliance with standard tax conditions associated with the Commonwealth taxation laws. In early September, Japan’s Fair Trade Commission issued a clearance letter allowing closing of the proposed transaction to proceed any time after September 30, 2023. Furthermore, in August the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission cleared the proposed acquisition and conveyed its recommendation to the FIRB. PERTH-based Castle Minerals has discovered significant gold mineralisation at its new Kpali prospect in northwest Ghana. The company reported that rotary air blast drilling successfully identified a 650m-long continuous zone of near-surface gold mineralisation containing 7m at 1.20 grams of gold per tonne, including 2m at 2.13g/t of gold from 20m, and 5m at 1.32g/t of gold from 6m. vReverse circulation drilling only tested the southern 200m of the 650m-long anomaly.
