Abbot Point Operations (APO) has taken a group of Bowen State High School students on a deep dive into the operations of Australia’s most northern deepwater export port. The year seven students participated in a two-day learning experience at Bowen’s North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) gaining a fascinating insight into the stages of resources production and learning how the terminal plays a vital part in the pit-to-port process. The learnings from the site tour were then applied at a school ‘Pit to Port’ workshop delivered by the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA), the education arm of the Queensland Resources Council. Bravus Mining and Resources has been recognised by the Queensland Resource Council’s 2025 Indigenous Awards for its partnership with Biodiversity Australia. The partnership began in 2018 through the Carmichael Rail Network with Biodiversity Australia providing environmental consultancy and on-ground services in ecology, vegetation management and fauna management. Queensland researchers have mapped the habitat and movements of the black-throated finch in a never-before-seen level of detail, as part of Bravus Mining and Resources commitment to managing the environment. The findings are the latest from a five-year joint research program between Bravus Mining and Resources and researchers from ecology consultancy E2M and have been published in the peer-reviewed and highly respected international scientific journal PLOS One. Bowen Rail Company’s (BRC) RACE Live will be showcased as an example of excellence in innovation at the 2024 Australasian Rail Industry Awards. RACE Live was developed in partnership with Brisbane-based software developer Polymathian to improve safety and productivity when railing coal from the Queensland Carmichael mine to port for export.
