Australian resources companies draw $1.15b AUSTRALIAN resources and energy companies attracted $1.15b of investment funding in the October-December 2019 quarter, the highest amount since April-June 2018, according to an analysis by Austex Resource Opportunities. Austex principal consultant Rob Murdoch said the trend for increased investment funding to ASX-listed metals and energy companies had carried over into early 2020. NEW plans are in the pipeline for the Pilbara’s rail network after the WA Government and Atlas Iron announced plans to become involved, in two separate deals. Rail transport company Aurizon is drafting a state agreement with the government to create a fourth iron ore rail network in the Pilbara which could cost more than $4 billion, a close source told The West Australian. Aurizon was expected to reveal the second stage of its study by the end of June, examining how the rail line would link to North West Infrastructure’s port space at South West Creek. Rio Tinto Exploration-Trek Metals agreement to explore Jimblebar nickel-copper project Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX), wholly-owned subsidiary of the mining giant, has entered into an agreement with Trek Metal (ASX: TKM) to explore Trek’s Jimblebar nickel-copper project in the Tier 1 Pilbara mining region of WA. During an initial option period, RTX may elect to farm-in to the project to earn an 80% joint venture (JV) interest by sole funding $5m in exploration expenditure.
