Abbot Point Operations (APO) has kicked-off Bowen’s biggest severe weather prep plan to ensure the multi-billion-dollar North Queensland Export Terminal is ready for the cyclone season ahead. APO general manager Damien Dederer said the business activated its Severe Weather Committee each October to review and test the coal export terminal’s systems, people processes and infrastructure, which includes some of the largest manmade structures in the Whitsundays. Weir secures $48m contract for new phase of greenfield phosphate projects

The Weir Group has been awarded a $48m (£25m) contract for separation solutions at the OCP Group’s Benguerir and Louta greenfield phosphate projects in Morocco. The full order, which includes a range of both WARMAN slurry pumps and CAVEX hydrocyclones, will be recognised in Q3 of 2024. This will support the continued construction of the Louta project and the tripling of production from the Benguerir project, where Weir has previously provided similar separation and desliming solutions based on its energy efficient technology. BlackRock stakes a $3b claim in WAIO

BHP (ASX: BHP) has entered a binding agreement with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), in relation to the miner’s share of WA Iron Ore’s (WAIO) inland power network. Currently, BHP holds an 85% interest in WAIO. Under the agreement, an entity will be formed to split this interest with BHP controlling 51% and GIP holding the remaining 49%. BHP will pay the entity a tariff linked to its share of WAIO’s inland power across a 25-year period. BHP retains full operational control of WAIO including its inland power structure. Fortescue delivers first BYD battery to WA

Fortescue (ASX: FMG) has delivered its first large-scale BYD Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to North Star Junction (NSJ) in a move to decarbonise its Pilbara iron ore operations. As part of Fortescue’s larger Real Zero strategy, the NSJ BESS is the first in a planned 4-5GWh rollout of large-scale energy storage systems. The installation comprises 48 energy storage containers providing a total capacity of 250MWh and capable of delivering up to 50MW of power for five hours. Powered by BYD’s Blade Battery technology, the NSJ BESS will store renewable energy generated during the day and supply green power to Fortescue’s Pilbara Energy Connect (PEC) network overnight.
