MACAR Group
The emerging partner of choice in the WA Mining Industry
MACAR Group is a WA based, husband-and-wife mobile crushing and screening company established in 2021 that is rapidly becoming a trusted partner across the mining and quarrying industries. With a growing fleet of Striker and CAT equipment and a strong capability in fixed plant maintenance, MACAR Group continues to expand throughout the WA mining industry.
As a family-run business, MACAR Group operates with honesty, accountability and genuine commitment. The team treats every project as if its reputation depends on it —because it does.
Operations are headed by Director Matt Kelly, a mid-west born and bred fitter and boilermaker by trade who has now homed in his skillset, specialising in mobile crushing and screening. Having worked extensively throughout WA, Matt understands the pace, pressure and production expectations within this industry. MACAR Group’s business model is centred around delivering safe, efficient campaigns that not only meet, but consistently exceed client production targets — all whilst minimising downtime.
Behind the scenes of MACAR Group is Matt’s wife, Carrie, whose deep connection to the Goldfields and more than 20 years experience supporting senior mining executives has shaped the operational backbone of the business. Carrie completed primary school education at Leonora District High School, before moving to Geraldton and then later Perth, where she has built a strong career in mining industry executive support.
Overcoming insurmountable challenges
In 2023, only a few years after establishing MACAR Group, the business faced an unimaginable challenge. Matt sustained a life-threatening fishing injury that led to necrotising fasciitis — a flesh-eating bacteria in his leg. With a 50/50 chance of survival, Carrie stepped into the business fulltime while Matt spent three months in hospital undergoing multiple surgeries, including the removal of 80% of the tissue in his leg and a full leg skin graft. Although Matt has fully recovered now, his recovery period spanned over two years. Carrie and Matt both agree that this was the turning point for their business, which strengthened their resilience and fuelled their determination to grow the company.
The company’s backbone
Carrie’s connection to the Goldfields now plays a central role in MACAR Group’s ability to mobilise quickly, manage logistics seamlessly and create employment opportunities in the region that she still considers home.
When asked what has contributed most to their continued growth, Carrie is clear:
“The key to our success is our employees,” she said.
“We are very selective on who joins our team, because our people can make or break our business.
“We have an incredible workforce that aligns with our values. They work hard, appreciate transparency and understand that safety is not something that we are prepared to overlook.”
With teams often working in harsh environments, MACAR Group prides itself on strong communication and a genuine care for its workforce, and an unwavering commitment to safe work practices.
Matt also reflects on another major contributor to their performance:
“We’re building on our existing fleet and adding Striker and CAT equipment wherever we can,” he said.
“It’s not the cheapest option, but reliability is everything when you’re growing a business. With CAT parts readily available locally, our maintenance turnaround is much faster.”
Building a stellar reputation
Today, MACAR Group partners with an impressive client list such as Gold Fields Australia, Westgold Resources, Lambron Contracting, Paramount Earthmoving, Bundu Contracting, CRG Civil, Holcim Australia and Tronox Holdings. The business focuses on long term relationships built on trust, delivery and consistency.
In 2025, the business implemented a new integrated safety, environmental and quality management system, with plans to achieve ISO accredited by mid-2026 — a strategic step that will strengthen its safety and capability and enhances assurance for our clients.
When asked what makes MACAR Group stand out from other crushing and screening companies, Matt answers simply:
“Being a family run business that has built this business from the ground up, we appreciate every project awarded to us,” he said.
“Our clients deal directly with the heart and soul of our business. They need reliability from their contractors, not excuses — and that’s what we deliver every time.
“Our reputation is on the line, so our work quality and ethics must always exceed their expectations.”
