Bravus blooms little green thumbs in Bowen community

The Bowen Rail Company (BRC) is supporting the Queensland region’s littlest green thumbs through a grant to the Queens Beach State School kitchen garden program. The Bowen state school was one of four recipients of the latest round of funding from BRC’s Community Partnership Program, designed to assist not-for-profit organisations and community groups with the purchase of small assets that can make a big difference. Queens Beach is part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and teacher Bec Trask says the children learn about food through hands-on gardening, harvesting, and cooking. “Thanks to the grant we’ve been able to expand the garden and have a bigger variety of fruit and vegetables for the kids to cook with,’’ she said.…

Bravus Mining groundwater research celebrated internationally

Years of scientific work to better understand ancient springs in outback Queensland has paid off for local researchers who will take their findings to the world stage at a prestigious conference in Davos, Switzerland. Dr Richard Cresswell and Anne Gibson from Eco Logical Australia will present at the upcoming International Association of Hydrogeologists World Groundwater Congress in September. The research focuses on the Doongmabulla Springs Complex, which lies more than 11km away from Bravus Mining and Resources Carmichael mine near Clermont in Central Queensland. Bowen Rail Company is revving up as the new naming rights sponsor of the Whitsunday’s favourite event, the 2024 Don River Dash off-road race. The Don River Dash 300 is a two-day off-road race that sees motorbikes, buggies and trophy trucks tackle a rugged “desert style” course through the dry riverbed of Bowen’s famous Don River. The event injects more than $4m into the local economy as thousands of competitors and motorsport enthusiasts from across Australia descend on Bowen and the Whitsundays each September. An industry-leading approach to diversity and inclusion has resulted in two awards for Anglo American at the prestigious 2024 QRC/WIMARQ Resources Awards for Women in Queensland. Monadelphous awarded $100m Kathleen Valley construction contract

Engineering company Monadelphous (ASX:MND) has been awarded a $100m multidisciplinary construction contract with Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR). The contract is for the construction of the wet plant at the Kathleen Valley lithium project in the Northern Goldfields of WA. The contract scope includes the installation of 1200t of structural steel, 20,000m of piping, 600 mechanical equipment items, 200 platework items, the SAG mill, magnetics circuit, flotation circuit, tails treatment, tantalum recovery circuit and concentrate dewatering. Combining the structural, mechanical, piping (SMP) and electrical and instrumentation (E&I) work enables vertical integration of mechanical and electrical construction of the wet plant and underpins confidence to deliver first production mid next year. Monash University research and innovation will be brought to India’s mining and mineral development sector after individual Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) were signed with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and the International Centre for Excellence in Mining Safety and Automation (iCEM) in Gujarat, India. The Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub will foster collaborative research from both India and Australia, focusing on critical aspects of mineral exploration, extraction, processing and recycling. CSIRO technology the #1 element in reducing hydrogen production costs

In a game changer for heavy industry, CSIRO and corporate advisor RFC Ambrian have co-founded Hadean Energy to commercialise technology that can significantly reduce hydrogen production costs and industry emissions. While the International Energy Agency estimates hydrogen demand to increase 138% by 2030, high production costs and energy inputs remain at this stage key challenges for producing green hydrogen. CSIRO’s tubular solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technology produces hydrogen efficiently by electrolysing water using a combination of heat and electricity.
