WesTrac has successfully delivered Greatland Resources’ (ASX: GGP) first Cat Hydraulic Mining Shovel at the company’s Telfer gold-copper mine in WA.
The Telfer gold-copper mine is one of the country’s largest processing centres, and the acquisition of this new machine is expected to play a critical role in assisting Telfer to process up to 20mtpa.

Since taking ownership of the site in December 2024, Greatland has increased open pit output by more than 50% and improved recovery rates through smarter planning, operational efficiency and equipment investment.
A key priority for the company is expanding the West Dome open pit and delivering future cutback works that demands reliable, high-performance loading equipment.

The Cat 6060 is a next-generation machine engineered for productivity, reliability and efficiency in large-scale mining operations.
The machine’s impact on production has already been significant, with consistent digging performance and minimal interruptions reducing bottlenecks across the operation.
Greatland superintendent Alan McGuinniss says since its commissioning, the results have been immediate.
“In 1300 hours, it hasn’t missed a beat,” he said.
Delivering a 600t class hydraulic mining shovel to a remote site like Telfer required detailed planning, coordinated logistics and a three-week on-site assembly.

WesTrac mining business manager Ben Morris says despite the challenges, the outcome was seamless.
“The 6060 was delivered on time as required and assembly was well supported by WesTrac’s new digger and drill services team,” he said.
“That allowed Greatland to integrate the machine into their operations with confidence.”
Support continued beyond delivery, with on-site technical specialists and data-driven monitoring, allowing Greatland access to immediate support and performance insights.
Greatland open pit manager Craig Rintoul says WesTrac’s backup support and service was perfect.
“If there was anything we needed to know, it was dealt with straight away,” he said.
