Engineering company Monadelphous (ASX:MND) has secured a $200m construction contract with Albemarle to expand the Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant in the south west region of WA.

The contract includes front-end pyromet structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works associated with two new lithium processing trains (trains three and four).

This contract follows the successful delivery of construction packages on trains one and two, plus the recently awarded long-term maintenance and sustaining capital projects contracts at Albemarle’s Kemerton operations.

Monadelphous managing director Zoran Bebic said the award of this contract represents the first in a new wave of major construction projects to come to market.

“We are extremely pleased to have secured these key construction opportunities, and look forward to continuing to deliver high quality solutions for customers, as well as supporting local communities through the provision of employment and supply opportunities,” he said.

On site work will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

Located 160km south of Perth, the Kemerton facility will supply lithium hydroxide for use in the electrification of transport, ceramics, glass, pharmaceuticals and more.

Operating at full capacity, the plant would produce up to 100ktpa of lithium hydroxide, supporting the manufacture of around 2.4m electric vehicles per year.
