FROM humble beginnings 60 years ago, Mario Giacci started a small business specialising in transport and logistics, and in 2014 Mr Giacci established MGM Bulk with his daughter Giudi and son Michael.

MGM Bulk’s goal was to establish business relationships with clients that were seeking long-term continuous haulage and logistics contracts with a reliable, safe and cost-effective service provider.

MGM Bulk commercial manager Fransco Barnard said currently, the company has secured contracts with several major mining companies all over WA and grown the fleet to nearly 100 trucks, with various trailer combinations suited for each individual task.

“We pride ourselves on our strong safety culture with the motto that “Safety is our choice”,” he said.

“We believe in maintaining a workplace of zero harm and we strive for excellence, honesty and integrity.”

The company has an essential blend of highly experienced and knowledgeable staff and offers bulk haulage, loading, shipping and storage solutions.

“We believe what set us apart is that we are large enough to compete with major companies, yet small enough to continue to provide a personal family business service to our customers,” Mr Barnard said.

“That family feel and personal touch is evident by the fact that the owners are directly involved in the business, which gives comfort and reassurance to our customers that they can contact and deal with them directly at any time.”

The company is particularly proud of its milestone achievement of the 100th truck in the fleet, which is due to arrive in September as part of a fleet of 12 trucks ordered for a new iron ore haulage contract in the Pilbara.

“It is a special milestone for us at MGM Bulk and we will celebrate this with our customers and suppliers that supported us on the journey,” Mr Barnard said.

MGM Bulk approaches every project with safety front of mind, regardless of the different challenges and logistical requirements, and strives to provide equipment with the latest technology.

“Our objective is to provide our customers with an innovative, cost effective and safe approach to every task with tailor made fleet configurations,” Mr Barnard said.

“This includes technology such as MT Data on board vehicle monitoring system, lane departure systems, collision avoidance technology and a driver alert sensing system (DSSI) to name a few.”

The DSSI is an innovative technology with in-cab audio system and seat vibration alerts if the driver gets fatigued or distracted at the wheel.

Mr Barnard said the lane departure system and collision avoidance systems have been installed to avoid potential incidents.

“Safety is our number one priority as a business especially because we’re in an industry where we share the road with the public,” he said.

“Safety is at the core of our services and our technological innovations.”

It’s this commitment to safety that Mr Barnard believes is part of the reason the company has been successful in reaching the 100th truck milestone.

With a number of new developments in WA, MGM Bulk has an excellent safety record and a reputation to compete with larger, listed companies in the industry.

“Over the past five years, the MGM Bulk brand has been recognised by major mining companies and we currently hold contracts with PMI (Mineral Resources), Atlas Iron, Iluka Resources, Cristal (Tronox) and WA Salt to name a few.

“We are very proud of all the projects and contracts we secured and we are very thankful for the opportunities we have been given to partner and build relationships with great customers.”
