
Cyclone resistance creates safer solutions
THE development and expansion of WA’s mining industry has highlighted a growing concern in regards to storage structures meeting the requirements of Region D, Category 2 cyclonic wind loadings detailed in AS1170. In conjunction with Deacon Engineers, Tanks West has developed a restraint system that involves connecting a circumferential band around the tank to galvanised square hollow section uprights that can be bolted to the tank plinth. The system successfully restrains tanks in severe cyclonic conditions and only protrudes 220mm from the line of the vessel. The circumferential band, fitted with clevis plates for attaching to the posts, is pre-installed during manufacture, minimising onsite work.
