Women make up only 22% of the global mining workforce, a traditionally male-dominated sector, according to the World Economic Forum. A new film series called Unstoppable has been launched by leading global technology company ABB to highlight three inspiring female leaders in the mining, pulp and paper and metals industries to break down these barriers and promote diversity. A proposed joint venture between two mining majors could create one of the largest gold mines in the world, producing almost 900koz per year in its first five years. Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti have agreed to key terms for the proposed JV in Ghana between Gold Fields’ Tarkwa and AngloGold Ashanti’s neighbouring Iduapriem mines. The Tarkwa mine is 90% owned by Gold Fields, with the Government of Ghana holding 10%. The Iduapriem mine is wholly-owned by AngloGold Ashanti, with both mines located in the western region of Ghana. Federal Resources Minister Madeleine King this morning announced the release of new data and four new Mineral Potential Maps as part of the $225m Exploring for the Future program. The announcement comes as part of the Australian Government’s moves to meet the increasing global demand for critical minerals for use in renewable technologies. Epiroc has won its largest-ever automation order, for the work to convert Roy Hill’s mixed fleet of haul trucks to driverless operation in Australia. The on-going work will create the world’s largest single autonomous mine. Epiroc announced on January 12, 2023, that together with ASI Mining it will continue to support Roy Hill’s iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, to develop an autonomous haul truck solution that is interoperable and scalable regardless of manufacturer, so called Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agnostic. Australian Vanadium Limited (ASX: AVL) is one step closer to becoming a near term producer of vanadium with the company securing a location for its high purity vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facility in WA. U.S. Vanadium LLC (USV) electrolyte manufacturing technology will be used, with the new WA facility based in the Perth suburb of Wangara capable of producing up to 33MWh per year of vanadium redox flow battery (VFRB) high-purity electrolyte. Bravus Mining and Resources has submitted an updated groundwater model for the area of the Carmichael mine and its surrounds to the Queensland Government as per the requirements of the Groundwater Management and Monitoring Plan, one of the suite of State or Commonwealth regulatory documents that form the operation’s rigorous environmental approvals. With the previously announced acquisition of Vango Mining and its Marymia gold project by Catalyst, this further transaction will create a new mid-cap Australian gold producer with control of three world-class Australian gold belts at Henty in Tasmania, Bendigo goldfields in Victoria and Marymia in WA.
