A Coerco Innovation: Revolutionising liquid management with multi-float® hose and cable bloats
Coerco is fast solidifying a firm reputation across a multitude of industries as a global leader in liquid management.
Driven by a highly skilled and diverse team, Coerco is redefining liquid management with its Multi-Float® Hose and Cable float solutions. Designed to support hoses, pipes and cables in challenging industrial and marine environments, these floats are engineered for exceptional durability, safety and adaptability. With sizes ranging from 75mm to 1200mm in diameter, Multi-Float® solutions are purpose-built to withstand harsh conditions while ensuring reliable performance.
The trusted Multi-Float® Hose and Cable floats are proudly Australian-made and designed to meet rigorous international standards, offering superior reliability compared to lower-quality alternatives. Manufactured from chemically resistant polyethylene, these systems provide exceptional buoyancy and durability, ensuring dependable performance in harsh environments.
Engineered for stability and operational efficiency, Multi-Float® products are ideally suited for applications such as mining operations, slurry pipelines, dewatering projects and floating pump systems. Coerco’s Multi-Float® solutions are designed to enhance operational efficiency and safety, with foam-filled options providing critical redundancy to ensure reliability, even if a float is compromised. Additional features include custom bushings to accommodate varying pipe or cable sizes — or a combination of both in the same float — offering versatility across a range of applications. For harsh environments, optional stainless-steel fasteners provide enhanced corrosion resistance and durability. To further support clients, Coerco offers a flotation calculation service, enabling precise buoyancy assessments to determine the optimal number and spacing of floats required for each project.
Pipe Floats
In 2008, Tiwest (now Tronox) upgraded its Cooljarloo Mineral Sand Mine, located approximately 170km north of Perth, WA, to enhance pumping efficiencies for its dredging operation. Cooljarloo, named after the local Indigenous word, is a key site for extracting heavy minerals from ancient shoreline deposits in the Lancelin to Gingin region.
To support this upgrade, Coerco collaborated closely with the mine’s team to develop and deliver a tailored flotation solution in just three months. This included 156 pipe floats (450mm) for slurry pipelines, several 90mm floats for electric cables and 315mm floats for other site-specific needs.
Today, the reliable pipe float system supports Tronox’s production of over 770,000 metric tons of heavy mineral concentrate annually. Using floating dredges and a concentrator, the mine processes ore efficiently while maintaining consistent feedstock to the Chandala Processing Plant for further refinement.
Ploy Pontoons
Coerco was proud to support Greenlands Equipment in the successful dewatering of the Tower Hill Pit in WA, a critical step for Genesis Minerals (ASX: GMD) to commence mining operations. Greenlands Equipment provided the complete turnkey solution, including the design, equipment manufacture, installation and commissioning of the system.
As part of this collaboration, Coerco supplied key components to support the project, including the PNT-P-600 Bore Pump Pontoon, pipe floats and cable floats. The PNT-P-600 Bore Pump Pontoon formed the foundation for the high-capacity pump system, capable of delivering water at 80L/s while seamlessly integrating with the site’s SCADA telemetry system and ensuring operational safety through a robust leak detection mechanism.
Coerco’s Pipe Floats played an essential role in protecting and supporting the HDPE pipework integral to the dewatering infrastructure by offering:
- Superior buoyancy for reliable performance,
- Robust construction for harsh environments and
- Versatile application to adapt to project-specific needs.
This partnership between Greenlands Equipment and Coerco demonstrates the power of collaboration in overcoming complex mining challenges, delivering high-quality, reliable solutions tailored to meet the unique demands of the Tower Hill Pit project.
Heavy Duty Pontoon Multi-Floats
Sustainable energy projects, such as the Kidston Hydro Project, are paving the way for decarbonisation and innovative technologies in mining and infrastructure. Located approximately 400km inland from Townsville in Far-North Queensland, the Kidston Hydro Project is the first pumped storage hydro project in Australia in over 40 years. Developed by Genex Power (ASX: GNX), this groundbreaking initiative faced significant logistical and technical challenges due to its remote location and complex engineering requirements.
To meet these challenges, Coerco was engaged as a trusted partner, leveraging its expertise in innovative engineering and manufacturing. Coerco collaborated closely with project stakeholders, using site-specific input parameters to develop and refine design concepts. Feedback on module handling, assembly and cranage was incorporated into the final design, resulting in custom Heavy Duty Pontoon Multi-Floats fabricated to meet the project’s stringent requirements.
This collaborative effort demonstrates Coerco’s ability to deliver tailored solutions that overcome complex challenges, supporting the successful execution of large-scale, sustainable infrastructure projects like the Kidston Hydro Project.
Multi-Float® Hose Floats
Coerco’s engineering team delivers excellence through custom solutions and the unmatched durability of its products across a wide range of applications. The company’s specialists have been involved in several large-scale projects both locally and internationally, including Tasmania’s Rosebery Mine and Panama’s First Quantum Minerals, where they addressed the challenges of expanding a large dewatering system into areas with deeper water deposits.
At First Quantum Minerals’ copper mine — one of the largest in the world, spanning 13,600 hectares and divided into zones such as Balboa, Botija, Colina and Valle Grande — rising water levels posed a significant challenge. Coerco’s innovative approach provided a rapid solution that could be assembled in-situ to manage the influx of water efficiently.
The dewatering system supports essential mineral processing operations at the site and Coerco played a vital role by supplying a large number of Multi-Float® pipe floats. These floats were seamlessly incorporated into the dewatering infrastructure, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
With over 30 years of experience, Coerco has been designing and delivering custom solutions for the mining industry, managing every aspect of production in-house — from material sourcing and design to fabrication and delivery. When opportunities arise, Coerco’s agility in developing new Multi-Float® products allows the company to respond quickly to unique project requirements, ensuring clients receive tailored and efficient solutions.
