Bravus Mining and Resources is upcycling tech from retired trucks and diggers from its central Queensland Carmichael coal mine to help regional Queensland families doing it tough. Bravus head of production and site senior executive Glen Corfield said that more than fifty state-of-the-art tablets no longer needed for mining operations have been upcycled to support the work of Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia and the Salvation Army. The initiative is a collaboration between Bravus and Haultrux, a mining technology and change management business. Bravus Mining and Resources has unveiled the newest and biggest Peer Supporters for the industry-leading mental health program run at its Carmichael mine near Clermont in central Queensland. A new report has highlighted the multi-billion-dollar contribution the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) north of Bowen in North Queensland makes to local, state and national economies. North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) commissioned the study to examine the economic and social impact of three Queensland east coast ports it is port authority for — Hay Point, Mackay and Abbot Point. The North Queensland Export Terminal is located within the Port of Abbot Point. The study found activity at the Port of Abbot Point contributed almost $10b to the Queensland economy each year and supported more than 8000 jobs across the mining, construction, transport and wholesale trade industries. Years of scientific work to better understand ancient springs in outback Queensland has paid off for local researchers who will take their findings to the world stage at a prestigious conference in Davos, Switzerland. Dr Richard Cresswell and Anne Gibson from Eco Logical Australia will present at the upcoming International Association of Hydrogeologists World Groundwater Congress in September. The research focuses on the Doongmabulla Springs Complex, which lies more than 11km away from Bravus Mining and Resources Carmichael mine near Clermont in Central Queensland. Metro Mining begins 2024 production season at Bauxite Hills

Metro Mining (ASX: MMI) has begun the 2024 production season at its Bauxite Hills mine in Queensland. Mining resumed on March 25 and ship loading is expected to begin on March 26. With the weakening of wet season conditions, operations will gradually restart over the coming days to ensure the safe operations of mining systems. Full operations are expected to resume by the beginning of April. Wet season programs have been executed and maintenance work on mobile equipment, fixed plant and marine vessels completed, with all assets now back at site. Rio Tinto and H2 Green Steel partner to accelerate green steel transition

Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) and H2 Green Steel have signed a multi-year agreement for the supply of iron ore pellets from Rio’s Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) operations. Rio will also purchase and on-sell a part of the surplus low carbon hot briquetted iron (HBI) produced by H2 Green Steel during the ramp-up of its steelmaking capacity. The reduction pellets will account for a significant part of the iron ore supply to H2 Green Steel’s flagship plant in Boden, Sweden, which will be one of the world’s first large-scale producers of low carbon iron and steel. Rio Tinto and Aymium partner to trial renewable biocarbon product

Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) and Aymium have partnered to develop and trial a renewable biocarbon product for use as an alternative resource to reduce emissions in large scale industrial processes. This product has been successfully trialled as a replacement for anthracite used in ilmenite smelting processes at Rio’s metallurgical complex in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. The complex is a world-leading producer of high-grade titanium dioxide feedstock plus iron and steel for specialised applications.
