A new training centre in a prime Moranbah position will help boost mines rescue capabilities and shorten response times when incidents occur in Queensland’s Bowen Basin mining hub. Anglo American and Exxaro — which own a 50-50 joint venture steelmaking coal exploration project at Moranbah South — have leased an 18ha parcel of land to Queensland Mines Rescue Service (QMRS). The land, on the corner of Railway Road and Moranbah Access Road, is opposite the planned site for stage 3 of the Resources Centre of Excellence. Collinsville kids ride high at Bowen Rail Company-funded ‘pump’ bike track

There were plenty of thrills and a couple of spills as Bowen Rail Company and Collinsville residents celebrated the official opening of the Queensland town’s eagerly anticipated $300,000 ‘pump’ bike track. Located in Darcy Munro Park, the Collinsville pump track is designed for skateboarders, bike and scooter riders to make their way over a series of rollers, jumps and berms by generating momentum through up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. Bowen Rail Company fully-funded the $300,000 cost for the first stage of the circuit as part of a 2019 Infrastructure Access Agreement signed with Whitsunday Regional Council for the construction of the Carmichael Rail Network. Bowen’s Cyclones netballers have swapped their bibs for aprons thanks to a Bowen Rail Company (BRC) community grant to refurbish their canteen kitchen and keep their club on track. Bowen Netball Association was one of four grant recipients in the latest round of Bowen Rail Company’s Community Partnership Program, which supports local not-for-profit organisations and community groups with the purchase of small assets that can make a big difference. Australian manganese explorer, Black Canyon Limited (ASX:BCA), has announced results from the recent reverse circulation (RC) drill program at the Flanagan Bore Manganese Project. Systematic drilling along a 2,000m long target located between the FB3 and LR1 deposits discovered significant zones of manganese mineralisation. Black Canyon said there was high-potential to expand the global Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) at Flanagan Bore beyond the current 104Mt @ 10.5% Mn (Indicated) containing 11Mt of manganese. The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety will be renamed the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) on December 1, 2023. Approved by WA’s Energy Minister Bill Johnston, the new name better reflects the importance of WA’s energy portfolio and critical role it will play in WA’s decarbonisation ambitions. Glencore achieves government certification of rehabilitation for Ulan

Glencore has received NSW Government sign-off for 76ha of rehabilitated mined land at its Ulan coal mine complex. The rehabilitation has met all closure criteria and objectives set by the Department of Planning and Environment and the NSW Resources Regulator. Ulan Coal’s environment and community manager Lucy Stuart said the rehabilitation provides habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna. “The certification covers two former open cut mining areas that now comprise 57 hectares of red iron bark and grey box forest, and 79 hectares of native woodland,” she said. “Our detailed monitoring programs have identified the presence of eight threatened species within these areas, including the painted honeyeater and glossy black cockatoo, which is a fantastic result.” Glencore’s…
