CDR007 supporting methane drainage for Dendrobium
Cougar’s fleet of 7 rigs, including the CDR007 drill rig, is on-site supporting methane gas drainage at Dendrobium, the biggest gas drainage project in Australia. Fresh from a complete overhaul at Cougar’s Thornton, NSW, facility, the CDR007 is underground and operating with extended service life and performance upgrades. These enhancements ensure reliable operation in the demanding conditions of underground coal mining, showcasing Cougar’s capability to keep customer-owned assets performing like new.
Cougar’s Minecruiser and grader
Cougar’s Minecruiser personnel carrier and underground grader — both designed and manufactured in-house — also support daily operations. The Minecruiser ensures safe, efficient personnel transport, while the grader maintains critical underground roadways to support smooth site logistics and protect fleet assets. Together, they highlight the role Cougar equipment plays in supporting productivity underground.
Cougar is the innovation and sustainability specialist. Its off-road highway-type graders, combined with Cougar IP and advanced engine packages, are designed to keep roadways in optimal condition. This ensures efficient transportation of supplies and personnel within the pit.
Cougar has upgraded its fleet to the latest emissions standards, with a particular focus on reducing diesel particulate matter (DPM) emissions. Its mine cruisers now emit just 12.5% of the DPM compared to the closest competitors, significantly improving air quality and reducing exposure risks for workers. This advancement has also enhanced productivity, allowing workers to spend an additional 20 minutes on the face per shift, resulting in thousands of extra tonnes of coal production.
