Delivering excellence across Australia's most demanding projects - GGC Industries

When McConnell Dowell needed a trusted partner for the complex Groote Eylandt Wharf remediation project, they turned to GGC Industries. The result? 97,885 hours delivered ahead of program, on budget and LTI-free, a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to safety, efficiency and excellence.

Established in 2013, GGC Industries has rapidly grown into one of Australia’s leading providers of crane operations, rigging, scaffolding and project management services. While the company may be just over a decade old, its strength lies in its people — the directors and employees collectively bring more than 100 years of combined experience to every project they undertake.

National presence, local expertise

Operating from strategic locations including Darwin, Mackay, Brisbane, Geelong, Melbourne and Adelaide, GGC Industries provides seamless national coverage while maintaining the local knowledge and relationships that complex projects demand. This geographic reach enables rapid mobilisation and consistent, high-quality service delivery across multiple sites simultaneously.

The company’s Queensland headquarters in Mackay positions it to serve the state’s booming resources and renewable energy sectors, from Brisbane to Far North Queensland. Meanwhile, their Darwin operation, led by Northern Territory’s Manager Ryan Amos, has established GGC as a key player in the region’s expanding infrastructure and offshore sectors.

Trusted by industry leaders

GGC Industries’ client roster reads like a who’s who of Australia’s mining and resources sector. Current and recent partnerships include INPEX, BHP, Rio Tinto, Alcoa and South32, with relationships built on consistent delivery and technical expertise.

The Groote Eylandt project exemplifies this capability. In September 2024, McConnell Dowell awarded the site services contract to GGC, whose scope included project management, temporary works design and certification, procurement and supply, and personnel such as crane operators, riggers, scaffolders, boilermakers, coded welders, fitters, mechanics and trades assistants. At peak construction, the team comprised 77 personnel on Groote Eylandt, with an additional 15 resources supporting quayside operations at Darwin Port.

Despite significant weather delays and logistical challenges inherent in remote island operations, GGC delivered ahead of schedule. The project’s success directly led to the award of Stage 2, with GGC now working directly with South32, a continuation that speaks volumes about the company’s performance and reliability.

Offshore and marine excellence

With 60% of their workforce holding offshore project experience across Australasia, GGC Industries brings proven capability to the marine and offshore sectors. Their portfolio includes major projects such as Kipper Tuna Turrum in Bass Strait, Gorgon and Julimar on the Northwest Shelf and INPEX operations.

This offshore expertise positions GGC as an ideal partner for the Northern Territory’s emerging offshore decommissioning sector, an industry expected to create significant opportunities for local contractors in the coming years.

Technical capability and innovation

Beyond traditional services, GGC Industries invests heavily in engineering and design capabilities. Using advanced tools such as AutoCAD Mechanical, Rhino 3D and VR modelling, the engineering team delivers certified temporary works designs that meet the most demanding project specifications.

The company maintains a dual-certified workforce — personnel certified in both rigging and scaffolding, providing the flexibility and efficiency that complex projects demand. This approach reduces coordination requirements and ensures seamless service delivery.

Integrated service offering

GGC Industries’ comprehensive service portfolio includes crane operations and supply, scaffold supply and installation, engineering designs for scaffold and rigging applications, rigging services and supply, project and contract management, and supervisor management services.

This integrated approach allows clients to engage a single, accountable partner across multiple disciplines — reducing interfaces, improving communication and delivering better project outcomes.

Safety first, always

Central to GGC Industries’ success is an uncompromising commitment to safety. The company maintains international certifications, including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, with all designs subject to third-party verification. Their zero-harm workplace philosophy has delivered an enviable safety record, including more than 150,000 man-hours without incident on the RAAF Base Tindal project.

Looking forward

As Australia’s mining, resources and infrastructure sectors continue to evolve, GGC Industries remains focused on growth and capability development. Recent expansion into mechanical services, including skilled boilermakers, welders and fitters, reflects the company’s commitment to providing complete solutions for its clients’ most challenging projects.

For project managers and procurement professionals seeking a proven partner for crane, rigging, scaffolding and project management, GGC Industries offers the experience, capability and commitment required for Australia’s most demanding projects.
