Kidman entered into a binding agreement to supply lithium hydroxide to the electric vehicle maker over an initial three year term on a fixed price, take-or-pay basis. Kidman and Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (SQM), under their Western Australia Lithium (WAL) 50:50 joint venture, are building a lithium hydroxide plant in Kwinana, south of Perth, to process spodumene concentrate from their Mt Holland hard rock lithium project. Rio sells 30% of Winu, Sumitomo pays $618m Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) and Sumitomo Metal Mining (SMM) have reached an agreement on the Winu copper-gold project in the Great Sandy Desert region of WA, with the Japanese giant paying $618m (US$399m) for a 30% share of the project. BHP claims that it has fired at least 48 workers from its WA mining camps for sexual harassment or assault since 2019. Other preventative measures include more CCTV cameras, 24/7 security, better lighting and better locks. This information was revealed to a parliamentary inquiry examining sexual harassment against women at WA mine sites. Included in this inquiry were the results of a survey conducted by the Western Mineworkers Alliance which found that nearly a quarter of women working in WA mine sites have experienced physical acts of sexual assault, and two-in-three experienced harassment of a sexual nature. Matsa Resources and AngloGold Ashanti Australia extend confidentially agreement Matsa Resources (ASX:MAT) has entered a variation agreement to confidentially agreement with AngloGold Ashanti Australia to extend the existing agreement to July 31, 2024.
