Alcoa Corporation has appointed Elsabe Muller as operations vice president – Australia and Alcoa Australia president, effective October 2024.

Ms Muller will be responsible for Alcoa’s bauxite mining rehabilitation, alumina refining and aluminium smelting activities in WA and Victoria.

After more than 30 years with BHP (ASX: BHP), currently serving as its group HSE officer, Ms Muller brings considerable local and international resources sector expertise to Alcoa.

Alcoa executive vice president and chief operations officer Matt Reed says Ms Muller has extensive leadership experience within both operational and commercial settings and a passion for developing people in a diverse and inclusive environment.

“[Ms Muller] has a track record of delivering results across many areas of focus for Alcoa including environmental stewardship and safety, as well as operational excellence,” he said.

“As a key member of our global operations leadership team, she will be focussed on driving

continuous improvement in our operations in line with evolving stakeholder expectations.”

Ms Muller says she is delighted by the opportunity to lead Alcoa Australia and to return her focus to producing aluminium, a material that is vitally important to the energy transition.

“I am excited to be leading one of Australia’s few truly integrated resources companies that has a proud history of not only responsible mining, but downstream processing to generate considerable positive impact,” she said.

“I look forward to applying my industry experience to help drive positive outcomes within our business and value creation for the stakeholders we serve, whilst also learning from the vast experience that I know resides within the Alcoa team.”

Tanya Simmonds will continue to lead Alcoa Australia in an interim capacity until October.
