Indigenous-owned tyre business lands milestone contract with MinRes

Indigenous-owned and operated Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services has signed a five-year contract with Mineral Resources (ASX: MIN) to provide essential tyre fitting services for MinRes operations, with the company’s initial support going towards the Onslow Iron project.
Founded by the Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation (BTAC) with support from MinRes, the business marks a significant step in strengthening local Indigenous enterprises.
Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services director Frances Hayes describes the partnership as having a notable positive impact for both the business and the broader Thalanyji community.
“Through this partnership, Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services will play a crucial role in maintaining the Onslow Iron project, ensuring tyres are on the road,” he said.
“Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services represents our commitment to sustainable growth and economic empowerment within our community.
“This partnership with MinRes provides us with the support needed to expand our commercial operations and offer more employment opportunities and skills development programs for our people, empowering them to create a better future for themselves.”
To support the business during its early stages, MinRes will provide a designated workspace at its logistics facility, along with a tyre fitter to assist in setup.
MinRes Indigenous business development manager Ashley Carey says the company is proud to have worked alongside the Thalanyji community to establish Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services.
“This venture is more than a business — it’s a steppingstone for Aboriginal youth to gain valuable skills and make their mark in the mining industry,” he said.
“Together, we are driving towards a future filled with opportunity and growth for the Thalanyji people.”
As Onslow Iron ramps up to an annual production of 35mt, local businesses like Irdiyamarnu Tyres Services will play a fundamental role in the project’s success. MinRes remains committed to fostering Indigenous businesses in the regions where it operates, helping to build skills and knowledge that can be applied across industries well into the future.
