Isaac resources precinct fosters collaboration
Construction has officially commenced on the $41.7m Isaac Resources Excellence Precinct, marking a major step toward building regional capability in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
The project is set to deliver a purpose-built hub for training, research and industry collaboration in one of Australia’s most productive mining regions.
Backed by $39.7m from the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and $2m from the Federal Government, the precinct is being delivered by the Isaac Regional Council in partnership with the Resources Centre of Excellence and Country Universities Centre.
The project’s goal is to foster a more skilled and diversified local workforce by supporting education, reskilling and applied research in areas such as mine rehabilitation and future land use. It will also serve as a collaborative space for advancing renewable technologies and exploring critical minerals opportunities.
“This state-of-the-art precinct was made possible by the Queensland Government’s investment through the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund,” Queensland Natural Resources and Mines Minister Dale Last said.
“Projects like these will cement Queensland’s future as the economic powerhouse of the country, unlocking diverse opportunities in the Isaac region.”
Scheduled for completion in 2027, the precinct will feature a mining heritage centre, R&D facilities and a dual sector learning centre designed to mirror a university environment.
“This project is about building a resilient and bright future for everyone in the Isaac region,” Isaac Regional Council Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said.
“By investing in education and innovation, we’re ensuring that our community can thrive for generations to come.”
Resources Centre of Excellence chief executive Steven Boxall comments on the Isaac Resources Excellence Precinct’s penchant for collaboration and innovation.
“We aim to be a catalyst for connecting resources excellence both within our region and globally… Our focus is on promoting genuine collaboration to deliver innovative solutions for industry challenges,” he said.
