Geotab and Google Cloud partner for data-driven success

Fleet and asset management are essential to safe and successful operations on-site, especially when your fleet is travelling through remote areas with spotty cellular coverage.

Vehicle fleets on mine sites often include a variety of vehicle types, drivers, assets and data that need to be managed efficiently to achieve operational excellence.

As a global provider of connected vehicle technology and fleet management solutions, Geotab has delivered innovative telematics services for more than 25 years, helping transport operators to achieve greater productivity, safety and compliance.

Geotab is a big data solution that empowers fleet managers with the insights they need to improve safety, optimise fleet efficiency, reduce costs and achieve sustainability targets.

But Geotab uses a vast amount of data to do this.

In fact, Geotab’s telematics platform connects more than 4.8m vehicles and processes more than 80b data points every day.

That’s why the company has partnered with Google Cloud, which provides the robust and flexible cloud on which its services rely. Geotab is built on and runs entirely on Google Cloud, and is in the top 100 global users of BigQuery, Google’s fully managed, AI-ready data analytics platform.

Together, the companies collaboratively help fleet managers:

  • Reduce their fleet downtime and drive business growth with Geotab fleet productivity solutions.
  • Reach their sustainability goals with Geotab.
  • Improve their safety records by managing safety risks with driver ratings reports and in-vehicle coaching — which also reduces costs.

The volume, speed and variety of the data demands elastic resources that can dynamically adjust to workload demands. Google Cloud Solutions ensure efficient management, and processing and analysis of data, enabling Geotab to empower its customers with the information they need to make data-driven decisions.

Google Cloud’s data analytics and machine learning enables us to capture telematics data from more than 55,000 commercial and government fleets globally every day. The platform then transforms that data — in just seconds — into context-specific benchmarks, giving fleet managers a 360° view of their entire fleet.

Geotab’s devices are in vehicles around the world, and its platform — supported by Google Cloud — is helping to drive better results for fleet managers everywhere. In Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region, Geotab devices are found in vehicles ranging from sedans in local government fleets to heavy vehicles on mining sites in Australia’s north west.

Some of Geotab’s largest customers offer a great demonstration of the power of telematics. Enterprise Fleet Management — which manages around 600,000 vehicles across fleets in the US and Canada — turned to Geotab to help them reduce costs, improve sustainability and prepare for the electrification of their fleet.

As a result, Enterprise Fleet Management saved $33m and slashed its carbon emissions by 194,000t. Geotab’s analysis of more than 90,000 vehicles also found it would be cost effective to replace 13% of them with electric vehicles (EVs) today, with an additional 45% eligible for replacement as more EV pickups enter the market.

Geotab’s customers often work with the company because they care about sustainability and protecting the environment, which means its own operations must be sustainable too. This is another reason the company works with Google, which is committed to carbon neutrality for their operations today, with a goal to run on carbon-free energy, 24/7, at all data centers by 2030.

Geotab’s partnership with Google Cloud ensures seamless processing of data, empowering fleet managers with insights for safety, efficiency and sustainability. The partnership shows a joint commitment to a sustainable future, while driving transformative changes in fleet management, enabling customers to make better decisions, increase productivity, ensure safer fleets and achieve their sustainability goals.
