Westrac inspires next generation at RTS
WesTrac showcased the latest Cat machines at the Resources Technology Showcase (RTS) in Perth last month, providing a glimpse into the future of the industry.
More than 20,000 people attended the RTS on its opening day and thousands of school children visited booths and spoke to mining and resources companies across the three-day exhibition.
WesTrac chief executive Jarvas Croome says a range of Cat technology was also on display, promoting the role modern tech plays in improving productivity and efficiency on mine sites.
“The RTS has been the perfect platform to demonstrate how technology like MineStar and Command for Underground have become pivotal for the mining industry,” he said.
“The event has also been a fantastic opportunity to show this modern tech to young West Australians and hopefully inspiring the next generation to pursue a career in this sector.
“Whether they want to become a boilermaker, a mechanic or a technician, there are plenty of jobs on offer, and this event has provided an engaging and exciting first step for kids wanting to learn more about the resources industry.”
This year, WesTrac brought underground gold mining to the showcase with an immersive tunnel, allowing visitors to follow the journey of a Cat R2900 XE underground loader while experiencing the sights and sounds of life underground.
The exhibition also showcased the evolution of gold mining in WA from the early days of the Kalgoorlie gold rush to the cutting-edge technology used at mine sites around the state today.
Six Caterpillar machines were also on display, including a limited-edition Cat 432 Backhoe, painted in centennial grey to celebrate 100 years of Caterpillar providing industry-leading machines and equipment to the mining sector.
“Attendees had the opportunity to learn how the innovative machines, advanced technology, and safety features of Caterpillar equipment assist the modern mining world,” Mr Croome said.
“We are always reflecting on how technology has changed in our industry, but even more so this year as our partner Caterpillar marks 100 years of providing leading machinery, equipment and technology.
“This next century will undoubtedly bring a new level of evolution to how the mining and construction industries operate, supported by the most advanced Cat equipment and technology.
“Improving sustainability and incorporating automation into operations are key goals for our customers, which can be achieved through our latest offerings to reduce emissions, improve productivity, and safety.”
This year, Caterpillar’s milestone coincides with WesTrac celebrating 35 years of delivering Cat machines, equipment and technology to sites across WA.
“It has been fantastic to celebrate these dual milestones, especially at a landmark WA mining event like the Resources Technology Showcase,” Mr Croome said.
“We’re extremely proud to be a Cat dealer and we look forward to what the next 35 and 100 years has in store for the resources industry in WA.”
