AusProof is more than a manufacturer, it is a team of engineers, designers and problem-solvers committed to delivering safe, robust and future-focused electrical solutions for mining and heavy industry.
AusProof is headquartered in Gladstone, Queensland, and is a family-owned OEM specialising in electrical cable couplers for mining, tunnelling, pumping and heavy industry, it has grown into a trusted global supplier, with its reach expanding through our KoNNx brand, the next generation of coupler technology. In recent years, AusProof has proudly established KoNNx operations in South Africa, South America, the UK and the US, bringing its expertise and service closer to the industries that rely on it.
Its core product range includes:
- Flameproof and Restrained Couplers: Certified for Group I hazardous areas and designed with arc-extinguishing insulation and phase-to-earth segregation. Products like the Ex118BSS and Ex118BSSRF define reliability.
- High- and Low-Voltage Systems: Offering full compatibility from 660V to 35kV, with current ratings ranging from 60A to 800A, including the world’s first 35kV coupler.
- Fibre Optic Couplers and Accessories: Engineered for high-performance signal transmission using expanded-beam technology, integrated across several product lines.
- LED Live Line Indicator: With over 50,000 hours of life, this powerful safety tool offers superior visibility, confirming live power in the harshest environments.
Every product is built to perform in the world’s toughest environments, from remote underground mines to complex industrial networks, with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency and reliability. Its in-house R&D, advanced testing facilities and highly skilled workforce allow it to continually push the boundaries of electrical connection technology.
A Brief History of Innovation
AusProof’s journey began with a clear vision — to provide world-class electrical coupler systems that withstand the harshest operating environments. Since then, it has built a proud legacy of engineering milestones:
- 1985: Pioneered the development of anti-tracking material, a vital safety advancement that continues to underpin its products today.
- 1988: Introduced the 11kV Phase Segregated Coupler System, setting new standards in electrical safety and performance.
- 1991: Launched the 22kV Phase Segregated Coupler, enabling higher voltage transmission with enhanced insulation.
- 1996: Delivered its 11kV system across Australia, expanding its national presence.
- 2005: Broke new ground internationally with its 25kV Underground Coupler System in the US, proving the company’s ability to adapt and perform in new markets.
- 2008: Released the 15kV Fibre Optic Coupler, demonstrating its early move toward data integration. AusProof established its first international sister companies — JoynX in South Africa, KonNx Inc. in the US and KonNx (KEL) in Chile. JoynX later rebranded to KonNx Africa in 2021 to unify its global identity.
- 2013: Engineered the world’s first 35kV Phase Segregated Coupler System, extending capabilities into even higher voltage applications, in just 15 weeks for a client in West Africa — setting a new global benchmark.
- 2015: Innovated the 11kV Replaceable Flange System, reducing maintenance times and costs for clients.
- 2021: KonNx UK launched in 2021, marking the most recent expansion aimed at supporting Europe’s tunnelling and mining sectors
- 2024: Included global trade show participation, including MINExpo in Las Vegas, and the recognition of KonNx UK’s role in Europe’s largest tunnelling projects
Together, under the KonNx umbrella, the network operates with nearly 50 years of combined expertise, serving major markets across Africa, North and South America, the UK and Asia Pacific.
Each of these developments reflects AusProof’s core belief — innovation must serve the real-world needs of the people who rely on its equipment.
Projects that define
AusProof’s track record includes major projects across Australia, the US, South Africa and other key mining regions. Whether it’s delivering the first 25kV system for underground operations in the US. or supporting Australian mines with its 35kV innovations, the company is known for engineering excellence and reliability.
Its clients trust its team because they don’t just sell components, they partner with them to solve challenges in extreme environments.
Game-Changing Designs
- Genderless Coupler Technology: Designed for universal compatibility, reducing risks of mismatched connections. AusProof’s genderless coupler design eliminates the traditional male/female connector format. Instead, both ends of the coupler are designed to be functionally identical, often referred to as double-female or unisex configuration.
- Removable Flange Innovation: Introduced in the Ex118BSSRF for quicker, safer maintenance.
- Aluminium Low-Voltage Couplers: A lightweight, cost-effective alternative offering Non-Ex performance with full system compatibility.
A 25-year legacy in the ground
At Callide mine in Queensland, an AusProof 22kV coupler remained in full operational service for more than 25 years, a testament to durability and design integrity.
Callide mine maintenance supervisor Kevin Kington, Maintenance Supervisor said the site has had had no problems with the AusProof 22kV coupler.
“It is astounding to think that it has been supplying power … for the last 25?years or so without any failures or downtime,” he said.
The road ahead
Looking forward, AusProof is investing in the future of electrification, automation and digital integration. It is expanding its R&D efforts to develop smart coupler systems capable of monitoring temperature, load and wear in real-time, helping operators make data-driven decisions that improve safety and efficiency.
The company is also exploring sustainable manufacturing practices and advancing materials science to make its products even more durable and environmentally responsible.
