Ford Ranger Super Duty launches 2026

Ford is set to launch the new Ranger Super Duty mid-sized ute in 2026, promising to tow more, carry more and do more for the mining industry.
There are a variety of vehicles on the market today but all have compromises.
Some can tow 4.5t but are compromised on off-road capability – or they may have a low gross vehicle mass (GVM), meaning low payload. Others may be able to carry large loads but have limited towing.
The highly-anticipated Ford Ranger Super Duty can tow 4.5t, has a GVM of 4.5t and a gross combined mass (GCM) of 8t, with the heavy-duty off-road capability required by the mining industry.
Ford Motor Company general manager for global trucks Sondra Sutton Phung says the Ranger Super Duty handles tasks previously limited to larger, heavier trucks.
“Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of our award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability and delivers what our buyers told us they needed but couldn’t get anywhere else,” she said.
“This work-ready vehicle will give owners the flexibility they need to get the big jobs done, with the confidence of a factory-backed warranty.”
Ranger Super Duty will allow mining operations workers to transport equipment and personnel without compromising performance or safety.
This new model was developed by Ford’s IMG Product Development team, led by a 1,500-strong group of designers, engineers and specialists in Australia, and will be manufactured in Thailand for sale in markets around the world.
Compared to other mid-sized trucks, Ranger Super Duty can:
- Tow more: 4,500kg maximum braked towing capacity
- Carry more: 4,500kg GVM
- Do more: 8,000kg GCMiv
Ford Australia and New Zealand president and chief executive Andrew Birkic comments on this.
“Ranger Super Duty further strengthens our commercial vehicle portfolio, with an offering for all kinds of work,” he said.
“As we move closer to launch, we will continue to work closely with fleets and vehicle modifiers across Australia to be sure that Ranger Super Duty does everything they expect it to, and so much more.”
The Super Duty concept originated in 2019 and, over the years, Ford actively sought feedback from extensive visits to Ranger customers, including Australian mining companies.
“The Ranger Super Duty has been specially engineered and designed to support the needs of heavy-duty fleet customers who need higher levels of payload, towing and off-road capability – backed by OEM levels of engineering, durability and warranty,” a Ford spokesperson said.
“Its mid-size design makes it ideal for navigating tighter spaces while still delivering the capability needed for demanding tasks.
“Ford’s Australia-led regional product development team spearheaded the Ranger Super Duty’s development, primarily at Ford’s regional Product Development Centre and Design Centre in Melbourne, and the You Yangs Proving Ground near Geelong.
“This local knowledge was key to understanding, and then meeting the needs of our heavy-duty customers with a factory engineered and designed vehicle.”
