International Graphite Limited (ASX: IG6) has announced that it has selected the preferred site for its proposed Collie Graphite Battery Anode Material (BAM) Facility in WA.

The company has signed an exclusive non-binding memorandum of understanding for an option agreement to negotiate a lease over approximately 20ha of privately owned land in the Coolangatta industrial precinct, located 5km north-east of the Collie town centre.

The lease period is set for 20 years with a further 20-year extension available, and the option may be exercised within a two-year period.

The commercial lease details will be finalised during the option period. This decision follows the release of the company’s scoping study for the Collie Graphite BAM Facility last month.

IG6 managing director and chief executive officer Andrew Worland, considers securing the Collie site a significant milestone in the development of the proposed facility.

The selected site is already cleared and well-served by sealed roads and civil infrastructure, offering ample space to accommodate the initial design as well as future expansion plans.

Mr Worland also highlights the site’s proximity to the existing power network, which presents an opportunity to purchase energy at the lowest possible transmission cost.

Collie lies within the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), WA’s primary power generation system, supplying electricity to metropolitan Perth and the Mid West, South West, and Kalgoorlie-Goldfields regions.

Furthermore, the 20ha site has sufficient area to consider the installation of a solar facility.

As WA’s renewable energy industries expand, energy sources into the SWIS are evolving.

In line with this, the WA Government recently announced plans to install one of the world’s largest batteries in Collie by the end of 2025.

IG6 has also entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Zen Energy to explore the feasibility of constructing a 200MW, 600 to 800MWh battery at Collie.

International Graphite is focused on becoming a leading supplier of processed graphite products, including battery anode material, for the global electric vehicle and renewable energy markets.

The company aims to develop a sovereign Australian ‘mine to market’ capability with integrated operations based in WA.

Its plans include mining and graphite concentrate production from the Springdale Graphite Project, which it fully owns, as well as commercial-scale downstream processing in Collie.
