Introducing Caterpillar’s advanced safety technology

Cat® has announced new advanced safety technology, including a collision warning and motion inhibit system, across its next generation medium wheel loaders.
Fully integrated for optimal performance, the new features are designed to improve safety, operational efficiency and provide greater accuracy.
Cat global product application specialist for medium wheel loaders Frank Stadelmann comments on the new technology.
“Our new optional collision warning system with motion inhibit includes object detection, people detection and motion inhibit as a package to improve safe operation by alerting operators and inhibiting loader motion in the instant a machine transitions from an inactive to an active state,” he says.
The collision warning technology leverages a multiview (360°) vision system and radar technology to allow operators to see, mitigate and manage hazards that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The system uses three colour zones to approximate the distance from the object and the loader’s anticipated path, yellow for awareness, amber for caution and red for critical.
If an object is detected to be within the critical zone whilst the machine is stationary, motion inhibit prevents reverse movement.
The new Cat payload for trade technology, another highlight, integrates certified scale data directly into the company’s business processes streamlining operations.
“The new Cat payload for trade option builds on our Advanced Payload Scale system that electronically captures weight and other data from the loader, now in a certified way, and can send it to the office or directly via email,” says Mr Stadlemann.
The new technology is available for all Cat 950 through to 982-wheel loaders, including XE models.
