The directors of Energio Limited have announced the appointment of Joe Ariti as a new director of the company. Mr Ariti is an experienced company director and mining executive with more than 25 years of experience in technical, management and executive roles assessing, developing, managing and financing mining projects and companies in Australia and overseas.
He has recently developed a strong background and successful track record in delivering capital market transactions.
Mr Ariti is also an executive director of Matrix Metals and has previously held non-executive roles with African Iron, Territory Resources, Swick Mining Services and DMC Mining.
The directors of Energio also announced the resignation of Athan Lekkas from his position as a director of the company.
The board thanked Mr Lekkas for his commitment and substantial contribution to the company during his tenure.
In a recent statement, the directors of Bullabulling Gold announced that Peter John Mansell had been appointed non-executive chairman of the company. Mr Mansell has 35 years experience in corporate and resources law and has served as a director of numerous public companies, including ASX 100 companies, West Australian Newspapers Limited and Zinifex Limited, both of which he chaired. He is currently a director of Ampella Mining) BWP Management and Nyrstar NV, in addition to a number of unlisted and not for profit organisations.
“We are delighted to have a person of Peter’s calibre and experience join us as chairman at this exciting stage in the development of the company, and believe that his involvement will be a significant asset,” Bullabulling managing director Brett Lambert said. Highly experienced mining engineer David Thomas has joined the board of Thor Mining as a non-executive director. Mr Thomas has extensive international mining experience, having worked for Anglo American in Zambia, Selection Trust in London and BP Minerals, WMC and BHP Billiton in Australia in senior positions in mine and plant operational management. He is experienced in project management and completion of feasibility studies, and worked as a consultant in various parts of the world in the field of mine planning, process plant optimisation, business improvement and completion of studies. Mr Thomas most recently held the role of deputy project director for BHP Billiton’s proposed expansion at Olympic Dam in South Australia. The board of Nexus Energy has appointed Lucio Della Martina as its chief executive officer.
Mr Della Martina will take up his appointment with Nexus in mid May, relocating from Perth to Melbourne to do so. Following a short handover period, current executive directors Michael Fowler and Ian Boserio will resume the positions of non-executive chairman and non-executive director respectively. Mr Della Martina joins Nexus with more than 20 years experience across
refining technology, international oil trading, gas business development, LNG marketing and LNG supply planning. His most recent position was executive vice president – Australia business with Woodside Energy, where he led the Pluto project development from the field’s discovery in 2005. Uranex has advised the market that managing director and chief executive officer Matthew Gauci has tendered his resignation, with effect from April 30. Rodney Chittenden, now the company’s project development manager, has been appointed as acting chief executive officer, from May 1 until an appointment to the role of managing director and chief executive officer is determined by the Uranex board.
On April 19, Universal Coal announced that Tony Harwood, the company’s executive chairman, had notified the board of his decision to resign, effective immediately, due to personal reasons.
According to a statement from Universal, the board consequently appointed non-executive director John Hopkins to the role of non-executive chairman.
“The appointment of John Hopkins to non-executive chairman is in line with good corporate governance practices and will enable the company to move forward without interruption to strategy,” the company stated. Mining engineering and consulting firm TWSP has appointed Derek Amidon to serve on the executive committee responsible for leading the development of the company’s overall business strategy and growth. Mr Amidon has more than 20 years of experience in the natural resources sector as an engineer, large capital project manager, operations leader and senior corporate leader.
Resource and energy industry executive Paul Cholakos has been appointed as a non-executive director of Carpentaria Exploration.
In a statement Carpentaria reported that, with more than 25 years of experience successfully managing complex development projects for leading oil and gas and diversified mining companies, Mr Cholakos would add significant expertise to its board. His appointment followed Carpentaria’s recruitment in January of former Geoscience Australia chief executive officer Dr Neil Williams as a non-executive director.
Welcoming Mr Cholakos, Carpentaria’s executive chairman Nick Sheard said he was a valuable addition to the company as it moved to develop its flagship Hawsons iron project near Broken Hill.
“Paul’s project management, team building and business skills are exemplary, as shown by his success in leading multiple project teams for the construction and evaluation of oil and gas and mining projects worth billions of dollars,” Mr Sheard said.
“Having negotiated multi-billion dollar international energy deals, driven operations at a major gold mine and worked at projects across Australia, Central, North and South America and Papua New Guinea, he has an exceptional business brain with demonstrated technical and strategic expertise.”
Advanced stage uranium explorer Deep Yellow has announced that Dr Leon Pretorius, the Namibian based managing director of its subsidiary Reptile Uranium Namibia, has decided to end his full time involvement with the company to pursue his other growing interests in Australia. The company reported that an external search for Dr Pretorius’ replacement was under way, and Dr Pretorius would continue his involvement with Deep Yellow until July 31 to ensure a smooth handover process. “Deep Yellow and Dr Pretorius will, however, continue to hold discussions during coming months about an ongoing consulting role with the company, particularly in relation to Namibian exploration and permitting,” Deep Yellow stated.
A number of changes to the board of Apex Minerals were recently announced, following the company’s successful completion of a rights issue that raised $22.2 million. Eduard Eshuys was appointed to the role of executive chairman, effective from April 19. Mr Eshuys was formerly the managing director and chief executive officer of ASX-listed gold miner St Barbara from July 2004 to March 2009.
Also effective April 19, Brice Mutton and Ross Hutton were appointed as non-executive directors of Apex. Mr Mutton is a geologist with more than 30 years experience in the resources industry, while Mr Hutton has more than 40 years experience in the minerals industry, ranging from mining to project management in technical and executive management roles.
Apex had previously advised the market of the resignation of Mark Ashley from his role on the board of Apex, which has now taken effect. Robin Sing Leung has also resigned from his role as non-executive director, while Kim Robinson has stepped down as chairman; Mr Robinson will remain on the board as a non-executive director. Finally, Michael Ilett has been appointed as a joint company secretary.
Current Apex company secretary Michael Andruszkiw will share the role with Mr Ilett until April 30, when he will step down. Mr Ilett is a chartered accountant and a member of Chartered
Institute of Company Secretaries in Australia, with more than 20 years of commercial experience.
Emerging Australian iron ore producer IronClad Mining has announced the appointment of Robert Mencel to the role of chief operating officer. Mr Mencel holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration. He has previously held senior positions with Tenix Projects, Tenix Defence and Normandy Mining (now Newmont). Mr Mencel was most recently general manager of Mount Gibson Iron’s Koolan Island project, off the coast of WA’s Kimberly region.
Mr Mencel will begin his new role with IronClad in mid-April and will initially focus on finalising the company’s commissioning and operating plan to bring its Wilcherry Hill project into
production.
