Queensland company wins Australia’s top safety innovation award

For a bespoke tech company with offices in Mackay and Brisbane, this recognition highlights how local innovation can drive industry-wide change.

INTELICS, a Queensland-based software company, has won the Safety Innovation Award at the Queensland Mining Industry Health & Safety Conference (QMIHSC) 2025.

The award recognises its Contractor Management Platform (CMP), which is already transforming safety and contractor management across some of the country’s largest mining operations, as a game-changer for mining safety.

CMP enables mining companies to gain real-time visibility of contractor competency, equipment compliance and proactive risk oversight — areas traditionally seen as high-risk in the resources sector — helping operations shift from reactive to proactive safety practices.

INTELICS director Dan Dennis says winning this award is a proud moment for the team and a powerful endorsement of the difference CMP is making on site.

“Our system is designed to give operations clear, real-time oversight of contractor competency and equipment compliance, helping them identify risks before they become incidents,” he said.

The solution has already been successfully rolled out across all BHP (ASX: BHP) mine sites in Queensland, with adoption now rapidly growing across other mining companies. Current users are reporting measurable improvements in risk oversight, contractor competency assurance and proactive safety management.

“Queensland has always been at the heart of mining in Australia and to now see a homegrown solution shaping the way major operators manage safety is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Mr Dennis said.

The achievement was made possible in partnership with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), who have supported the platform’s development and implementation.

The award not only reflects INTELICS’ growing influence in the mining technology space but also highlights how innovation born in regional Queensland can drive safer, smarter operations across Australia.

With the award win bringing CMP into the spotlight, INTELICS is preparing for the next stage of growth, continuing to expand its platform across the mining sector and beyond.
